I had my 2017 iMac serviced last week after the hard drive died. The tech said it was filthy dirty inside with centuries of accumulated dust. That’s partly the consequence of living in a place where air conditioning is essential; even with regular changes of filter, the AC is excellent at redistributing dust around my love shack.
So it got me thinking, which is a rare and uncomfortable occurrence. Should I (you, we, all of us) keep our precious hifi toys under cover when not in use? The components are dust magnets, after all.
If covers are needed, what does the Naim massive use/recommend. If not, why not?
I don’t think you need to worry too much about Naim boxes unless they have cooling fans sucking in air, as for computers, NAS etc.
Nothing wrong with using covers if you want, but frankly I couldn’t be bothered, and you would need to be a bit careful of overheating of you leave them turned on.
One notable problem is the volume control on the Musos and Unitis, and I guess the Statement preamp. The recess is a trap for dirt, and the lowers point is where the gap between the case and the volume control is, so that dirt can and does get in there and affect the operation of the rotating control. That seems to me like a design fault.
