Email from signals: end of NAC-N 272

I double checked. It’s the exact same cable that connects a 250 to a HiCap (or a SuperCap).

…not forgetting (S)NAXO to 250s.

OTOH, there are some very keen prices going on ex-demo units from authorised dealers. I’m almost tempted myself…

Urm. That would make them something akin to Michell. Nothing tong with that in itself but aren’t Musos their biggest sellers?

I’ll bet the Musos and maybe the Unitis are the only reason the venture capitalists are interested in the company.

On the other hand, a lot of people are going to be spending a lot of time at home. I.e. have a lot of time to listen :-/

I don’t think so, one reason for this forum is that Naim can see what its customer want and a replacement for the 272 deems top of the list

I think we are saying the same thing ?

Thanks JDP for that info, but it is too late for me since I traded the cables in on my Mscaler. I might of gone in a different direction if I knew this however.

That’s just this forum, which probably represents a small part of the overall customer base, and is heavily tilted towards loyal enthusiasts. The 272 may be less important to the broader cross-section of Naim customers, or to the bean counters that control things.

My guess is Naim looked at 272 sales and decided there was no demand. It doesn’t make sense for Naim to keep a product in its range with less features than its new platform. We may see an updated unit: 272.2 with a catchy name like The Comet.

How about binary star, to reflect its dual nature?

How about Black Hole, to reflect where your money goes.

Make it in gold and call it the Champagne Supernova

Can’t call anything champagne! Hence the rename to mu-so “dune”.

it was inevitable.

Maybe a 272.2 is on the way? Maybe not.

Seems from the email, they are saying one should think about NDX2?

I think I am a bit sorry to see the little NAP-100 go, a cracking little amplifier that reminded me so much of the 110/140, amps that really punched a good bit above what one might suspect. Still, I understand it.

Also, as to the 272, I do not quite understand the constant whining about it. It is much like my Uniti1, yes, it got outdated, certainly it is a shame the platform could not remain current, but a bit over ten years, not a bad run at all for such a product!

The thing is, mine still works and sounds amazing! Just because it cannot be updated with newer bells and whistles, like the 272 cannot as well, takes nothing away from its sound quality! I say use it, enjoy it until the damn thing literally dies!

What I did struggle with somewhat though recently, in looking at moving on from said Uniti, and looking at the current Uniti, for the price wanted for say Star or Nova, I made a choice of separating the streamer and amplifier portions, so that down the road-be it another ten years or whatever, it will be just the streamer I will update. I bought a Nait XS3 and ND5XS2, which came in cheaper than any of the two Uniti offers, in a package that isn’t much bigger than the single box. I didn’t require the fancy display and knobage of the Uniti either.

My old Uniti will still see use in the bedroom, it has not become a door stop by any means! Enjoy what you have, more importantly, enjoy the music that these fine pieces of gear provide to your ears! Sorry for the ramble!

Sounds very different between Olive and NAHA2.

Certainly the layout also was completely reworked for NAHA2.

Interesting, didn’t realize it had been changed that much. I don’t think I had realized they updated the pot in it either! Feel like I have lost the last 15 years of Naim life to some degree!

What’s neat is that they used the same transistors used in the rest of Classic range so it has a similar sonic trait.
