End of my tether

Yes you could call it that, but when the system is setup so well and optimised by a highly professional dealer who pays amazing attention to every detail then tweaking doesn’t seem necessary. Just plonk on a favourite Peter Hammill and the K Group LP and enjoy the music. It is why I bought the system.

I believe JV put his power amps in the room next door to the listening room (the kitchen IIRC), feeding the cables through the wall. There they could hum to their hearts’ delight.

I am having some struggles … at the moment … the bass on my system can really go off…for no apparent reason … its either the Roon NUC or the mains - or some fault in the amplification chain. I am leaning towards the NUC getting hot … I am trying patiently to tie it down. For me it appears a heat issue…as when the NUC is cool - its epic.

My neighbour has all his hifi, bar the speakers, in a room next to his listening room. The speakers are fed by cables passed though the dividing wall. Hum, airbourne feed-back etc are all eliminated and his system sounds consistently good.

Suggests a common cause…

Though it’s easy to make a dealer install worse there is usually some Margin for improvement too.

The dealer makes 70% of the installation. You do the rest generally.

My dealer reckons he spends a lot of his visits undoing weird stuff that people have done to tweak their system on order to get them sounding right. He was too polite to say it, but I suspect that he holds this forum partly responsible!

It is made more complex by the possibility that what sounds better to one person may sound worse to another…

Really ? what sort of dealer have you got ?

Mine does it ! and doesn’t leave until both of us (and Mrs D) are satisfied.

And he takes more satisfying than me !

Would be long to answer Don. But all the details, cables not touching nothing, best speakers placement…best power cables order in a powerblock, tuning of the room…require many hours.
Does your dealer have 5 hours free to stay with you?
Maybe if you buy a 200 k system.
In general dealers stay between 1 to 2 hours. And I understand.

Or your dealer is exceptional…

A bloke and his shed

I’ve had a name dealer stay all day for the cost of petrol and my system is low end relatively speaking.

It is possible, but i have great faith in my dealer.

My dealer does 100%.
He won’t leave until both he and I are happy everything sounds great.

Yes on all counts except my system costs nowhere near £200k. He does the Space Optimisation as well.

Same here, my guys driven 150k just to fix a connection/cable problem.

My John Boy has driven 170k each way, twice, once to install SN2/NDX2, then again for the power supplies. I’ve installed UQ2, then NAP100 and then Nova, plus the power blocks etc, all of which is straight forward enough.

Well, by your standards my dealer is obviously exceptional !

But I notice below that Mike’s dealer (and a few others’) like mine, is what we have come to expect of Naim dealers.

It’s not my experience here in France, from many dealers.
