Yup, see above.
Yes it is. Yes it does. Options for HDMI and optical in the sound menu but nothing which clearly gives one primacy over the other.
We have a Virgin box for TV. The way we do it is to take an optical lead from the telly rather than the Virgin box. Maybe that would work.
I would feed the optical signal from the Sky box into the DAC and then into the 202, keep the audio and visual signals separate and not let the audio go anywhere near the TV.
I’d hope it would but my TV is a 50” Kuro and it’s a 2 person job to get it off the wall just to look at the connections. I’m not one of those 2 people as my spine would go. All the TV cables are embedded in the wall for the sake of not having trailing cables. There were spare cables coming out (including the SCART I’ve discovered was not needed by the Sky box!).
That aside I can’t see any purpose to the Sky box having an optical out if it weren’t possible to do what I’m trying to do. What am I missing?
Ian I totally agree. That’s exactly what I’m trying to do but the outcome is zero sound.
I’m not sure. When we connected to the Virgin box it didn’t work reliably. Hence why we connected to the telly. But we don’t have cables in the wall so it isn’t an issue for us.
This is going to sound fairly ridiculous but there is a post on the web that suggests the optical cable has to “click” into the Sky box. Quite probably irrelevant but worth a try?
Well does it have the other type of output, pretty sure mine has optical and coaxial?
Hope this gets sorted out
Hi Ian,
It was at your suggestion that I went down the route of Sky optical to DAC to pre. You said you had a Pro-Ject.
How is your Sky box connected to your TV then? By HDMI?
I’m assuming, and/or trying to figure out how you got Sky box optical to send sound to the pre rather than by HDMI to the TV? What’s your routing for pictures and sound?
I doubt there is such a setting. But you should be able to turn the TV speakers off. I can and do when I connect the Qb to the telly.
There are no TV speakers and never were. Pioneer had some ugly things to attach to the sides of the Kuro. I never bothered. Can’t see any option in the Kuro or Sky settings.
I’ve just looked at the back of my Virgin box. The opical socket is glowing red, so I know there is a signal at the socket AND the sound is reaching the TV through the HDMI. Both are outptting at the same time.
I’m not talking about external speakers, I talking about the internal speakers. There should be a way of turning these off.
My TV is connected via HDMI , I split the signal via the Sky HD box . There is no signal coming out the TV. I am now using a Unitiqute 2 as the DAC . I have split the signal for years
If you go to the settings the audio output should be set to stereo
What internal speakers? Kuro had none. You had to attach something to get sound.
Please explain splitting the signal. Mine is definitely set to stereo, so…
I feed the signal to the DAC and the HDMI to the TV no signal out of the TV
I think what you need to do is change the HDMI port to the video only output and run the optical output to the 202.
In that case you don’t need to tell the sky box to send video only, the sound is not getting any further than the TV. It’s going nowhere.
That’s what I’m trying to achieve but the end result is just no sound.
