If it’s been reset to factory settings, it really is plug and play. Ciscos with the power supply sited internally do run a trifle hot, so I’ve put mine on supports to give it a bit more room to breath.
Great thanks…that’s one thing I liked about the EE, very easy to add to the chain.
For various complicated reasons I use Ethernet over Mains for my Nova. Would there be any benefit in putting a switch eg EE between this and the Nova? Please don’t reply that I would be better putting Ethernet cable between router and Nova - not going to happen
@crispyduck the mains ethernet thing I don’t know about but I do know the EE switch made a positive difference to my Nova. I would say that if the ethernet is compromised pre Nova then the Switch will probably have a bigger effect than if it was ‘perfect’ probably
Worth a try I would say
After some delays, I received all parts of my new 8switch today. (The plug adapter for the power supply was initially missing from the factory-sealed box. The distributor in Germany has seen a few like this and was quick to UPS the missing part )
I am working from home and had no chance to listen critically yet, but did of course plug it in immediately. I don’t know if my mind is playing tricks on me but the background music seems to be improved (compared to the basic TP-Link switch that I have used so far). A bit annoying as I would have preferred no change - now I don’t know where it will end …
However, my kit apart from the 300 is new, has had maybe 50 hours play time, and is still audibly changing on its own. So, too early to tell
Please keep us informed. I’m also thinking about one of these or the other one ppl are talking about.
Will do
I would do whatever it takes to get rid of the Ethernet over mains stuff. If you really can’t run an Ethernet cable, I would put in a decent Mesh WiFi setup instead, rather than hoping that a switch might somehow isolate the streamer.
I currently have a decent Mesh WiFi with ethernet backhaul, but I’m still thinking that a EE switch just might improve things further.
The wording is still not strong enough
For someone who has been critical of the audiophile network switch, I now think EE is the one that is worth taking a look.
I’ll post about how the Cisco and EE in series impacts on my system.
So have gone for mesh Wi-fi system and lost cables. Just done it but initial impression is very good. Plus warm glow at not having blown a wad on switches, cables etc
You must feel liberated! What Mesh gear did you choose?
BT Complete Wi-fi. I already had the Smart Hub 2
Well what a difference moving from EoM to mesh wifi. I had no idea how much it would improve. Soundstage, detail, sweeter treble, controlled bass. A veil etc !
Thank god I looked here… I was just about to ask if there were any views on which was the best switch… Now I’m thinking about the setup ( as it would appear an EE 8 Switch is inevitable). So I’m only seeing 3 connections into it though. Router, NAS and NDX2, although possibly the TV as well having watched the video. Any feedback on that?
If you look in the eR thread, you will see people happy about the eR and other switches
But regarding the EE, I don’t understand your question?
So I’m only seeing 3 connections into it though. Router, NAS and NDX2, although possibly the TV as well having watched the video. Any feedback on that?
The EE has 8 ports, 1 of which is labeled “IN” and goes to the router, 7 are for the other stuff. So if you plug NAS, NDX2, and TV into it, you have 4 ports left.
Yes, I’m probably just thinking aloud. There isn’t anything else that I’d want on that switch because otherwise I’m degrading the signal. I think I’m understanding that to mean I need my Mac on another switch for ripping CDs to the NAS?
It is intentionally designed for 8 ports, so you may as well fully utilize all those ports.
