The Eurovision Song Contest looms.
Look Mum No Computer (Sam Battle) has a catchy synth entry for the UK. You can stream it from Qobuz. Eins, Zwei, Drei!
The German entry is sung in English. I wish the lad well!
Yes, we’ve gone quirky this year (sometimes works for other nations) but it is catchy/chantable. However, can he sing live or command a stage?
Bring back Nicole….the only song that stood the test of time.
Sorry Bucks Fizz fans…even though they had the original ‘wardrobe malfunction’.
I wouldn’t waste the electricity to watch it !
Your choice, but amid the Europop there’s sometimes a surprise like Lordi’s “Hard Rock Hallelujah” (2006)
Even more impressive is that in the reprise, after she won, she ad-libbed singing verses in German, English, French and Dutch, without the backup band knowing in advance what would happen.
This was the true spirit of Eurovision, that otherwise promotes soul-less ‘schlagenpop’.
Look Mum, Zero Points.
@Nigel1957 Always a possibility, the UK entry has been saved by the jury votes in recent years! But that has more to do with the UK’s standing in Europe which we can’t discuss here.
It turns out that Sam Battle is an eccentric inventor, building the modular synths he plays. His YouTube channel shows him asking the audience for the title of a song which he improvises. He also runs a museum of analogue tech in Kent.
Had a listen, I liked it, but I like most of our entries.
It’ll win for sure, unless it gets null point!
It’s fun and not serious and he seems to be relaxed about it all, which is great.
I don’t know why we can’t get Robbie Williams to do a nice song for us.
there was a rumour a few years back that Morrissey would be the UK’s entrant which would have been interesting (is that the right word?)
Does the dreaded nul points hurt that bad? I wonder what hurt Morrissey, but yes, he was said to be interested in 2007.
It says nothing to me about my life.
@MikeD
If you mean ‘Eins, Zwei, Drei’, the UK entry, then I congratulate you on living a life entirely free of administration!
I expect that was a reference to the music that they constantly play
