F1 - 2024 Season

Lewis is usually quick to own up when he makes a mistake. I think he was not happy with the car set up at all.
Mind you, only two races left and I doubt Mercedes is sharing that much data with him as as with George for obvious reasons.
He’s done a fantastic job giving the circumstances.
I’m sure Vasseur was very impressed and pleased with his future driver performance. :sunglasses:

Merc success down to the cold temps. They coped better than the others.

…and tyre management.

Tyres worked better in the cold.

Tell that to Leclerc. Some drivers are better that others managing their tyres. Fact.

Of course, thats a given and Hamilton is probably the best. Todays Russel and Hamiltons performance wasn’t due to their outstanding drives or their outstanding cars. The cars performed better in the cooler temps, the tyres performed better because of the cooler temps. Russel and Hamilton are top notch drivers and took advantage of their cars coming to them in a way they haven’t for most of the season. Well done them but I don’t expect to see the same difference in performance in hotter climes.

I rather randomly switched on Sky Sports y’day to see qualifying repeat only to find they were showing last year’s grand prix - took me a while to catch on and finally twigged when I realised Perez was (comparatively) driving out of his skin. Served to illustrate just how far he has fallen this year for whatever reasons - he just does not get on with this year’s RB.

Many congrats to Max who had to take an entirely different approach compared to last year (and indeed beginning of this season). Undoubtedly the best driver on the grid at the moment IMO.

Didn’t quite know what to make of the two Mercedes drives - mainly because neither of the drivers appeared to understand why their cars were performing so well - very peculiar and entertaining/ bewildering!

I must note Las Vegas at night makes for a terrible spectacle and, were it not for the money at stake, I’m sure USA could offer up some much better drivers’ circuits. None of the podium drivers appeared to find it within themselves to utter much positivity about the circuit itself.

Congratulations to Max on his 4th world title – superb level of performance all year.

Apart from the qualifying mistake, Lewis was on it all weekend. If he’d started on the front row it would have been a mega battle. George undoubtedly had race pace up his sleeve but I’ve a feeling Lewis would have been top dog this weekend.

Toto reckons they had 2s on everyone else. If George needed it he’d have played it!

Lewis would have had ‘im.

Cadillac/Andretti have agreed a deal with FIA, Liberty and F1 about joining the grid in 2026. Which is good news I think. Now pondering which USA driver will get one of the seats. Also wondering how pissed off Gene Hass must be, not being the only American team now.

"Four-time world champion Max Verstappen feels he would have won this year’s F1 title “much earlier” if he was in a McLaren; " SKYSPORTS.

Graceless comment imv.

Graceless but funny.

and not necessarily true. RB had a free run for the first part of the season. If he was in a Maclaren there would have been a good chance of his team mate splitting points with him. Which doesn’t happen with RB.

I think it is also about him giving a message to Horner and Marko that he won’t hang around if they don’t give him a car that he can win races and championships in.

He’s just winding them up, it’s just a sledge.

I tend to agree - MV won the championship this season, but he pretty clearly signposted during the past few months that the RB car was simply not performing anything like it had been. His driving skills most likely overcompensated for the shortcomings of the car however, it is increasingly apparent that the competition have caught up and passed the RB’s package. He can look at what happened to LH with Mercedes and I’m sure will have no appetite to repeat that experience! No doubt compounded by all the handbags at dawn with his father and Horner; and the loss of Adrian Newey - that must have been terribly distracting. So whilst there may have been a bit of a comedic slap at Norris, I do think the main jist of his comment was aimed fair and square at RB’s leadership.

I must admit I’ve warmed to Max over this season. Much more so that I can to any of the new crop of the British silver spoon brigade.

Tim Mayer (son of McLaren co-founder Teddy Mayer) has been fired as a steward. Perhaps FIA has finally caught on that to avoid controversy it helps if any appearance of bias is avoided. Let’s see if Herbert follows.
