Finally convinced to make a move - switch and network noise - help

Having looked at some threads on here in detail I am pretty much convinced to tinker with my system in the context of reducing potential network noise - an experiment to see what happens.

I have a 500 series set up ND555, 1x CD555PS, NAC552, NAP500, BW 803 D4, Chord m6 power, Chord Sarum T speaker cables, Super Lumina interconnect for ND555.

For my network I have a Cat6 network managed by a Unifi Dream Machine, in my AV cabinet is a Unifi lite 8 port PoE switch. My WiFi is run by Unifi U6 lite access points.

I have looked and my current shortlist is a Melco S10 (found a pre loved one) or a Phoenixnet switch. Think these look good if pricier than I have paid for network kit!

What cables? There is a HUGE variance on these. I was looking at the Audio Quest Vodka.

Any help or advice in helping my quest into network fiddling would be appreciated. FYI I don’t currently run a separate network for Audio…

Some may say that I need to focus on adding the second PS on the ND555 first - just thinking this as I write.

I would not look at the Audioquest Vodka in your case, it may exacerbate the latest firmware update negatives, if you tended to prefer the 3.8.
The PhoenixNet has a full and organic sound. But not cheap.

Funny - I was just looking at that as you sent over. What would you recommend?

The phoenixnet was attractive for that reason and yes I was wondering if there were good options for less…?

Blue Jeans Cables are very good. I am using AQ Vodka and Diamond with Phoenixnet.

And the Limetree with Farad Super 3.

Preferring Limetree today to Naim current firmware (which is better now).

Be careful. This stuff even all used adds up very quickly. Especially with powerlines on these extra boxes.

Try to get used gear. Picked up phoenixnet for about half price.

Yes that is why I feel I need to complete my main set up with the second PS first…

I may do both and then introduce in steps.

In contact with someone with one for £2200… good?

Maybe Catsnake 6a?
Audioquest Diamond, but expensive.
Some Chord?

I paid £1420, black. I am hard bargain hunter and make offers and am prepared to leave it. £2200 too much perhaps.

Its an expensive unknown for me so I might go down the Chord route as I know it and love it.

Audioquest Diamond is more refined than Vodka. I have Diamond on ND555 and Vodka on Limetree. Also have BJC on standby.

Again with Vodka and Diamond buy used but be careful as there are snides out there. Try to get from reputable source.

I think I got Vodka for £270. You can always sell them on. Diamond was alot more used.

It all adds up. Be prepared to try, buy and sell.

If open box, ex demo, it can’t be more expensive. So normal price, but not a real good affair.

I waited a few months to get PhoenixNet. Right deal came up.

But I had the EE8 with Farad Super 3 to start. The Farad was new and I spent extra on cable. Although I don’t use EE8 now, the Farad is excellent with Limetree. So worthwhile keeping hold of these boxes.

Similar to you @lamby2244 but I had 2 x PSs on NDS and then got EE8/ Farad, then ND555.

Bought alot of kit in short space of time. Was very exciting time.

When you have a great system that you have brought together, switches and cables are refining/ tuning the sound to your ears and room. A good dealer willing to keep lending until you find the sound you like is needed.
Comments on here will steer you in many directions. For example i like AQ Vodka with Phoenixnet, but not Diamond. I did not like the Melco switches ( not heard the £12k) new one. Take your time.

It depends if you have a good local dealer where you can do that. And also do you want to pay higher prices?

Different ways of doing things, and tuning your system. And then there are always better cables you haven’t heard. It becomes a mindfield.

I am quite happy with cables I have now. Settled on them for a fair while and no need to change out.

Hi Gazza,
Hope you enjoy this Christmas time.
You don’t complain on the new firmware ? Maybe it’s your character, I have never read you complaining :joy:

Try to put off the vodka, just to see . Please, satisfy my curiosity and maybe it will also help.
