Firmware upgrade process looks to complete successfully but the update is not installed

For my qb 2nd gen speaker the current fw reports rel 4.3.0 and an update to 4.4.1 is available. I wish to have this installed to recover internet radio, which I understand requires 4.4 as a minimum. Despite numerous attempts over the last couple of weeks where the update and install process looks to complete successfully, including trying hard resets, the current fw version 4.3.0 stubbornly remains in place. Help please, as I miss my radio.

First up I did just try and see if when connected via Ethernet rather than WiFi, the upgrade through the app produced different results - unfortunately not.

Having then connected to the device through the web browser and followed the update instructions, the device again looks to go through all of the appropriate download, install and restart processes but just as before, when I then interrogate the browser it still reports the original fw version and that the update is still available. I did it a few times with identical results, plus also including a mains power cycle and a reset.

For additional context:

  • barring this issue with getting the fw (4.4.1, Build(6600)) installed, everything is working as normal, bar the internet radio only allowing the 3 naim stations.
  • I do note that the current installed fw 4.3.0.6408 is pretty old (7/12/21)

Regarding my last point re the vintage of the currently installed fw, is there a possibility that the jump to the new version is too large and I need to make some incremental steps.

One other data point - the AirPlay fw is reporting itself as 366.0

Based upon how it appears that all of the naim stated indications that the update process is executing successfully, right through to the device rebooting and back to a functional state, whilst in reality the update is failing, does anyone know of an error code or status report (via the app or web browser) which could point to where the process is failing?

No that isn’t going to be the issue.

Although not yet resolved, the helpful naim support team have concluded the unit has a hardware fault which is preventing the update.
