a classic album and something very recent
Indeed, I think that’s where I’m heading.

How good is Billie Eilish’s vinyl?
My copy of Happier Than Ever sounds sensational. Hit Me Hard And Soft, less so.
A couple of other suggestions which show off the vinyl format:
Tom Misch - Geography (2018). He has also just released a new album, Full Circle.
Charli XCX - brat (2024). One of the best sounding albums I own (standard black transparent version). The sleeve and inserts also add to the overall experience and distinguishes it nicely from listening via streaming.
Can I also suggest, any pre-digital Beatles vinyl. So many albums have shown off how good vinyl can sound compared to cd or streaming, but probably no more so than these. They sound so fresh, and you can actually hear the bassline!
Very true!
I’m surprised no-one has mentioned Welcome to the Pleasure Dome - FGTH. Trevor Horn’s production is incredible and the full length title track is epic. I have an original copy from the mid 80’s which still sounds amazing. Steve Wilson released a remastered version late last year.
You and Adam 1 are of one mind! Yes, a great album with super production values and musical variety too. Two Tribes most apposite. I didn’t know it had been remastered though. Was it any good?
Don’t think anyone has suggested “The Queen is Dead” - The Smiths…
So I will.
Excellent choice B.
Maybe get her back to CD by suggesting the Telarc 1812 overture that nothing could track.
[This is a joke]
I have lots of LP’s (and a Linn) but I would not start with LP’s nowadays
Better still SACD or streaming 24/192…
I was unaware of this (a little before my time) and have never really been a fan of Clapton per se as much as he may have technical prowess. Rather sad.
It’s on order - I’ll tell you when it’s arrived ![]()
Neither would I, but 2500 lps are my albatrosses!
I’ve about 1000 LP’s I bought when there was nothing else. I slowly switched to CD when stuff started only appearing on CD.
In the last year or two have started buying LP’s from charity shops (maybe one a month, if I see something interesting) but committed to CD’s which I rip to a NAS.
Have NDX and nDac
You can’t beat LP romance: the physicality of the whole process; the beauty (sleeves, vinyl colours, labels); the mystical setting up; and the pure visceral nature of the music, still surprisingly good for an ancient medium; and, of course, the infinite upgrades. Loki-niece maybe onto something!
Absolutely, vinyl is my main source for this very reason, love holding the vinyl and the ritual of the process.
The Queen is Dead, great album and sounds excellent. Been listening to it a lot recently.
Don’t forget to announce the big reveal of your final choice, we gotta know!
And you will; just awaiting confirmation from her mater of any albums already on the shelves, so that I don’t double up!
If you get Fleetwood Mac Rumours,be sure to get the 45 rpm version
