First Naim gear?

For ages I lusted over the original Supernait when it first came out, but couldn’t afford one. After filling up the large penny pot I got myself the CD5i in 2011. Then the CD5xs and the NaitXS a short while later.
Then joined the forum as I was mighty confused and intrigued over all this power supply and odd socket malarkey.

December 1984: upgraded a Technics 60w amp to a Naim Nait [ later referred to as Nait 1 ]

Rega Plannar 3 / Naim Nait / Rogers LS1 [on Linn Kan Stands]

I didn’t have much disposable income in those days; had the first year of monthly mortgage payments and a little house to call home, but the little nait kept me happy to enjoy my Hendrix, Kate Bush, PF, Beatles, Pete Gabriel, David Bowie, Sparks, Status Quo albums : )

Feb 18. We decided we had to may Boxes and lots of "spaghetti " behind them so went for a Star.
One box instead of my Musical Fidelity amp and cd Transport, Chord dac and a Pure DAB Tuner.
Sounds fantastic with my Castle Stirling speakers and MJ Acoustics sub woofer.
Plus her indoors is happy.
Also had a Yamaha AV amp we decided to ditch and bought a soundbase instead for the tv.

My first Naim was a NAC22/NAP120 combo. This was in 1978 I think. Along with my trusty LP12/Grace707/Supex 900 turntable combo and some Spendor BC1s it was pretty good at the time. A big jump up from my Spendor A40 amplifier, (yes they did do an amp, and the wood veneer box matched my speakers). I only had the amp for maybe 6 months, a NAC12/NAP160 soon followed, and then a few months after this it all changed again to an active NAC32/NAXO/3xNAP250s setup. Had the fever real bad.

102/180/napsc in late 1999 replacing a Cyrus 2 and psx that I had had for ten years.

112/150 amps and cd5 , in 2003. different sources or electronics after, but always a naim component in the chain since 2003.

Somewhere between '77 and '79. A NAC 12 and (memory dims) either a NAP 110 or 120, I think the latter as the chrome bumper only went round three sides. Richard has clarified this for me previously, but with the old forum currently offline I can’t check.

Bought from Grahams, stolen by the lad next door on day release from Borstal not that long after!

Subsequently went through NACs 32.5, 72, 82, 52, 252, 552; NAPs 250, 135, 500; CDs CD2, CDS2, CDS3, CD555.

I am not a sheep, I am a free man. :sheep:

First bit of Naim kit was in May 1988 - a Nait 2, purchased from Doug Brady in Covent Garden.

This was followed by a NAC 62 and NAP 160 (July 2002), later upgraded by the addition of a Hi-Cap (Dec 2002). The pre and powers were upgraded to a NAC 72 and NAP 180 in 2006. The 180 was then swapped out for a NAP 250 in December 2018.

A relative newcomer, I bought my first naim gear, an ND5XS streamer, in 2012 following the Sound & Vision show in Manchester and have been on the slippery slope ever since.

Nait for me around about ‘86 replaced A&R 60

CD5i(talic) and Nait 5i(talic) in 2008ish. Still used everyday though the speakers and cables have changed.

My first Naim was Nait 3, CD3.5 with olive Hicap in 1998. Added phono boards later to the Nait 3. Nice sounding kit at the time but start of a long expensive journey!

Ex-dem 42/110 from Brady’s in Liverpool in 1980.

Shouldn’t this be in HiFi corner?

My first Naim kit was a humble olive 92/90. Not the most popular amp Naim made, but served me well between my LP12/Ittok and Royd Apex for many years, and sounded pretty good nonetheless.

I’m also a relative newcomer. My first Naim purchase was a nDAC around 2011. All black boxes now.

First Naim was an 82/180 into SBLs. Changed from Exposure 7/6/6/Dual4.

Stu

Started my Naim journey with a Nap250 and Nac32 with bolt together cases and a DNM power supply that looked like it was made in a garden shed. Had the upgrade bug all the way to a 555, 552 and 500. Now a change in situation but still have uniti2 unitiserve and ovator 400s.
