Don’t like ELP, and I’ve never heard Love Beach, but if the cover is anything to go by, I’m glad I haven’t!
Looks like Keith Emerson might set off the airport metal detectors in a Derek Smalls fashion
Could be the Bee Gees….
It does the Bee Gee’s a disservice😉
The story I read somewhere goes that that they had to deliver an album for contractual reasons, so “took the p1$$”.
Having said that though, I do like the second side suite (Memoires of an Officer and a Gentleman), and their reworking of Rodrigo’s ‘Fantasia para un Gentilhombre’ (Canario) is excellent.
Me too.
OTOH, ELP’s “Black Moon” is best forgotten!
Brothers in Arms…
Beaten again! You guys are good!
Not all of them……
Sorry to disagree, but I think that ‘Brothers In Arms’ is a great record.
Mind you, listening to it puts me in a very particular time and place, which gives it a particular significance for me.
Arc - Neil Young
Not quite the same thing but to me The Who are unrecognisable after Who by Numbers save the title track from Who are You.
Ditto The Stones after Tattoo You including their latest effort.
Oasis after What’s The Story.
Black Uhuru after Red
Gregory Isaacs after Red Rose For Gregory
Ooh, the GNR is especially a good pick. Thankfully I only downloaded the title track for $1.29 or something before deciding to move on!
I can’t come up with 5 off the top of my head, but I would nominate U2’s Zooropa for the consideration of the committee!
After several great albums - Unforgettable Fire, War, Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby - what was U2 thinking?!!
With U2 Zooropa ?
There’s two sides to the two’s. The noisy stadium filling belters and then the more studio focused soundscapes (ahem)
Zooropa has only 2 big live belters and the rest seeing the boys playing about in the studio to great effect.
Plus it has ‘Stay(far away so close!) which is arguably Benji’s best vocal ever recorded.
Ok, so not specific individual albums and maybe not even terrible albums, but to me they were disappointing. Some of you may well disagree but thats OK ![]()
Kings of Leon - everything after their first 2 albums. I believe we can blame Bono for that!
Arctic Monkeys - everything after their first album.
Black Sabbath - everything after Sabotage. I really did try to like Technical Ecstasy. I remember rushing out to buy it as soon as it was released and being very disappointed with it.
Deep Purple - everything after Ian Gillian left. Again I did try hard!
Bob Dylan - although it pains me to say so but all of his latter stuff. Yet again I have tried.
I don’t think any group or artist I like have released a dreadful album. Yes, there are some I like more than others and some I rarely play, but dreadful, not really.
@Richard.Dane has highlighted the perfect case in point for me in Eminence Front. A long way from their best album but one of my favourite Who songs.
Indeed fascinating how our tastes differ. I think DSOTM one of the best albums ever made. Also love Meddle, The Wall etc. But Final Cut is just unlistenable to these ears.
Which is great, wouldn’t it be boring if we all liked (and loathed) the same stuff ?
IMHO Quo lost it after What Ever You Want, they had the occasional good single but album wise not for me. I have Ain’t Complaining on vinyl, one good track Burning Bridges the rest is meh at best.
I think they lost it after Blue For You. Some reasonable stuff on Just Supposin’.
