Drove over to Llyn Vyrnwy today for a pootle round the reservoir on the eMTB’s, followed by a nice cup of Earl Grey in the cafe.
That’s a cracking view !
Nice 60 mile loop York to Ampleforth and environs. Bright and breezy. Easingwold for Cappuccino and toasted teacake.
Week before we did a nice hilly one from home nr Skipton into Forest of Bowland AONB (my usual riding area) and down to Clapham then home. Clapham community shop pork pie was great. Coffee terrible!

Curious Coffee? Superb Brownies
Not managed Clapham this year as time catches up with me. But over Bowland Knotts into Clapham then round the back road to Settle and home was always a favourite pausing for sustenance at Ye Olde Naked Man. I still do Settle but on a flatish route via Bolton by Bowland and 2/3rds the distance. Old age argh!
I like a ride out to Shed 24 (or whatever it’s called) at Hellifield. A brew on the platform is like being in the set of Railway Children.
We have a very similar location obviously. I always enjoy riding in the area of Bowland AONB, even in summer so lightly trafficked compared to the Dales. Hodder and Ribble Valleys, Slaidburn, Newton etc. We had a great meal at the Parkers Arms in Newton just last week.
I have to confess though I have never been to Hellifield station, or its Cafe. For the full Railway Children experience you could of course go to the Worth Valley Railway. Not done that either despite living here over 30 years!
As for old age, I have an e-roadbike as an option now. I only use it when my knees are bad, for example if I have ridden hard (or played cricket) the day before. It is light enough to feel like a decent ride with the power off, or above 16mph when it is inactive anyway but it is getting me out on days that would be a struggle to enjoy otherwise. A good investment in my cycling last year, although I didn’t sell any of my old bikes to make way of course!

I don’t have the storage space for an electric (extra) bike as it happens so I’m doing my best to stay human powered. I’ve never been especially fit so I’m happy just to keep trundling. I don’t go as far, as fast or as high but I keep going. There’s a bloke in his 80s who I see regularly riding a single speed, fixed wheel, donkey’s years old steel bike in the Hellifield area. I find that inspirational.
Have you seen the tandem around with the chap in the rear who is blind? They both look a good age. I see them about quite often and have chatted several times at a Cafe stop.
Friendship and cycling.
Bruce
No but I’ll certainly lookout for them now.
Have somehow managed to badly strain my R quad so enduring some forced time off the bike. Really frustrating!
Sorry to hear about that hope you recover soon.
Out of interest whats your avearage monthly miles.
I ask as you often post rides over 100 miles
At this time of year roughly 800 miles on average. I’m not especially fast but can generally keep plugging away. This is the first time I can recall a proper muscle injury from cycling - apart from the usual ache after a taxing ride or two.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and please don’t be like me and do adjust your food intake to compensate for burning off less calories whilst laid up!
