Flapjack and cappuccino!

Good plan. :+1:

Cold dank day today. 2 degrees at 9am - it was still a chilly 4 degrees by 1pm. 110k in the bank - longest ride since late November.
Definitely need to keep doing longer rides as endurance not where it needs to be…

50k for me but it was 0 degrees, damp & misty. And that’s my excuse.

Yesterday; my thrice weekly ride of 22 long-country miles, none of these namby-pamby Kilometres around these 'ere parts

The flood water has completely gone but the roads are really crappy, is doesn’t take long for the bike to get plastered. A routine bike clean today, and an attempt to make better sense of both front and rear-mech adjustment.

I’ve a Cervelo Caledonia 5 I bought for winter duties but the roads are so shitty I can’t bring myself to bugger it up so I end up on a ā€˜proper’ winter bike that’s a melange of old components. Narrow clearances, not tubeless compatible, rim brakes etc but at least I don’t feel guilty getting it cacked up :joy::joy::joy:

MTB today for me. Properly dirty.

So far I found just cleaning my belt drivetrain has stopped the squeaking squealing noises that it was making.

In fact, yesterday just driving through puddles did that.

I’m wondering whether I need silicon spray or not?

Does the silicone spray stay on for long?

I suppose it’s not sticky like oil, but does it shed the dirt better than a dry chain?

Or does the silicone dry and just leave the chain less prone to getting dirty?

Overall, I’m delighted with having an ebike And also with having sealed hub gears and a belt drive.

This has made my life easier and better, I can just jump on my bike and zoom around the area with little effort - and that’s even when the roads have been cold, wet & icy - Roll on the Warmer months.

Finally escaped the British winter and we are back cycling on and off road with friends in the foothills of southern Spain.

Nothing for me to report. So just want to say Chapeau to those who have already been out this year. Cold and miserable. So a brilliant effort!

Yes, water will do that, buts it’s not long term.

The dry lube when applied to a clean belt will protect it and keep it cleaner for longer and it’s not sticky.

DG…

Thanks DG.

Looking like Zwift again tmrw - 3rd day in a row I’ll have wimped out of riding IRL…:roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

Anyone planning to try a few SW to NE Strava segments today? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I had a nice splashy MTB yesterday. Listed the notable wildlife seen; Barn Owl just as I left the house. Kestrel, Hares x2, Goosanders++, Buzzard, a skinny juvenile Heron, and finally a Kingfisher just as I got back to the house. These are all common spots here, but not always on the same trip!

Cycling isn’t always just for the fitness is it.

Hope you are all keeping safe during the storm, which looks pretty awful. Meanwhile in the south of Spain, Mrs G and I went for a gentle pootle in the foothills above SalobreƱa yesterday, and stopped off for a quick half pint and tapas.

Got a bit battered by that storm on the way to work a couple of days ago.

That was nasty.

But then today I just took my e-bike for the first adventurous ride I’ve done since I got it.

Despite being a very heavy step through, it can plough through deep muddy puddles of sludge when it needs to.

Out to Sunderland point, and then Heysham Power station to Morecambe and home.

A lovely clear cool crisp day.

The problem is that I had such fun on the ride and felt so full of him and vigour, and sea air after all that riding that I opened a bottle of wine when I got home.

I haven’t really had any booze for the last couple of months, and have more or less given up, so it’s nice to have some again.

BBC weather showed a 3 hour gap between ā€˜showers’ so I took the opportunity for a ride - been throwing it down here for days. Lots of standing water, up to pedal level at one point, but managed to crawl round just over 50k. Ice cold washing the bike on return. The worst bit of cycling. The sun came out during the ride and the countryside looked lovely.

90k today. 4 degrees and a chilly wind. Really struggled to enjoy it if I’m honest :thinking:
