Well, in ever decreasing circles I decided to make a start back on the road with a local group who flagged that there would be a gentle paced 20 miler last evening. And the route was flat. Perfect I thought. I hadn’t quite factored in the logistics of getting to the start point. My flat 20 mile canter became 54km with 550 metres climb. Nothing compared to the earlier posts, but quite a bit starting back!
A fun Easter weekend in France. Took the overnight ferry to Cherbourg, then cycled to Courselles on the Normandy beaches, followed by Honfleur / Yvetot the next day, and then a nice short rider to Dieppe yesterday.
A great mix of countryside, town and sea.
Had a day out at the Olympic Park Stratford.
Was quite surprised at the size of the velodrome and how steep the sides are.
Condor cycles supply all the bikes there.
Doing something similar next weekend with guys at work. Basing in Arromanches for 3 nights.
Noticed a clicking on the bike today - stripped the crankset off and non drive side bottom bracket bearing is very grumbly. Greased it all up and hope it lasts for another 250km. Can’t get a new T47 BB in time…
Lovely ride on Friday, glorious weather around my ‘backyard’, the Forest of Bowland AONB. Flat white with appropriate latte art. Barista very pleased with her effort, as were we!
We bought a new bike yesterday. Paid £362 locally from an enthusiast. His wife is legally blind and he had prostate cancer ten years ago, so they stopped riding bikes with narrow saddles and started riding motorcycles. Now they rode a Goldwing with a trailer.
Never tried a tandem before. It will be fun. The last bike had a frame failure in 2014, so Ventana build a new on warranty. They stopped riding in 2015. Bike is mint. We will service the suspension and bleed the brakes. Stoked.
Quick trip into town on Saturday to get a new cassette. Couldn’t find my chain whip so had to go out on Sunday and get another one. Think I lent the old one to somebody but can’t remember who
Drove out from the big smoke to the garden of England.
An absolute cracker of a ride I found on komoot. Very undulating, lots of views and not many cars
Seven hour trail ride in Oslo yesterday. Lillo is very technical. Just 30 seconds from the car an 80 year old man walking ahead of us down a sloping path tripped and fell down a slope. We took care of him and called an ambulance, I think he broke his arm. First lunch with ice cream. Second lunch with steeped coffee and homemade cinnamon buns. Tired today.
My rides are mostly in zone 4, with 20% zone 3, and just a smidge of zone 2
Yesterday covered my 22 mile course in 1:15:06 (getting slow in my dotage) …didn’t go into the red zone anywhere, and i always take care at junctions and with other road users.
