Wet weather means MTB.
New bike day. Still a few tweaks to get it how I want but first chance to get it dirty today.
How MTBs have changed; for decades I rode either steel or Ti 26” hardtail with a triple chainring and rim then finally disc brakes. 80 mm front fork. 8 yrs ago a f/s XC bike 120mm front and back, 29er and 1x12.
Now full carbon, 130mm suspension front and back plus, dropper post all via remote, wireless 12sp shifting, amazing 4 pot brakes…and a sneaky 50nm motor to take some stress off my knees.
Off road was my gateway to cycling, hopefully this gives me a fair few years yet.

Livigno today.
Started with a brake bleed. Lost the pressure yesterday and it was a bit stressful. Lots of air came out.
Then I did some flowy stuff.

Yesterday I did a long climb (1400m) from Aprica via the large dam and to the pass of Venerocolo. The last kilometre the trail climbed 275m. Loose rocks, so it was mostly pushbike. You feel a 25kilo bike. On the top I did the old trail back to Magnolta. Then the downhill trail to the car. Around 2000m climbing. Epic trail.

Was pretty tired last night, and planned for a resting day today. But I got an recommendation to do the Bernina Express trail and the other trails between the lake and the town in Switzerland. Another 1400m climb from Porchiano to Lago Bianco. I ride on tour-mode to save battery uphill.
Then very nice trails back to the car. I had to stop by the restaurant with the great view on the way down. But the combination beer and cheesecake was not the best for the system. Further down it almost came up again. The trail was bone dry, technical and I had a great time.

That looks just perfect, great single-track. Good climbs, although at 25kg I assume there is a bit of a motor assistance involved.
I may be a bit odd but for me days like those are for the road bike though. MTB for rain, mud and preferably cold! I love coming back totally splattered.

When it is too loose and big rocks in the trail, the walk assist does not help. I push it the old school way.

Waved our good friends off this morning doing the Ipswich to Istanbul ride. Across to Rotterdam then down the Rhine via Eurovelo 15 into Switzerland, beyond that are several options.
They are in their early 70s, did Lands End to J O’G a couple of years back. He has done the Trans America both North & South too.
Plenty of cappuccinos & cakes no doubt!
