Flatcap XS service

Just received my Flatcap XS back via my dealer. It was purchased from eBay (Seven Oaks selling having received it as a trade-in) and 2009 manufacture with no prior services, so it went straight off to Naim for service without listening; and to give me peace of mind. Naim had it back with my dealer within 3 weeks.

I don’t know what Naim tested or replaced, if anything. It did not return with any paperwork, apart from my dealer’s invoice. Is that normal, particularly if I later sell it on? I know a purchaser could check with Naim if they’d ever had it back, as I did. I’d prefer not to pass on the invoice showing my address in lieu of a service history.

Regarding listening and any system/speaker adjustments, should I consider it run-in or new equipment? Will its sonic effects “settle” in a few days/weeks? I guess it is using bits of the XS3 that have not been used before, if only the 2 sockets. The additional lead required was purchased from eBay and is authentic, so that is run-in (surprisingly long aren’t they). But I have added a brand new RSX Benchmark power cable on it, to match my other boxes.

Any observations gratefully received. As ever I am trying to avoid wasted adjusting and re-listening that waiting would likely avoid, but also keen to get everything sounding as good as possible ASAP.

I asked Naim to forward the paperwork to me - which they did

Many thanks, I’ll email Naim. Did it just say “serviced on [date]” or more than that? I’m interested to know if there are new capacitors or similar, but maybe that would have been a discussion or extra cost.

Did your equipment take time to “settle” once returned?

Detailed work done.

It sounded so good when it returned it wasn’t really clear whether it then improved further :joy::joy:

I would ask the dealer for the details. They have a direct line to Naim so it should be easier. As to running in, it’s a case of connecting up and enjoying in. The sound should improve over a week or two but don’t listen for changes, just play music.

Whenever I get paperwork back from Naim, it says: “Tested. OK”

It should say: Tested. Bloody brilliant

Thanks all.

PS. For any XS3 user considering the same upgrade, the 2009 Flatcap XS was £375 on eBay (Seven Oaks rather than an individual), the service £249 plus courier and the additional lead (betwixt FC and XS3) £75 plus postage to ensure I got a genuine one. I am sure cheaper is possible.
