When using two 555PSs with an ND555, I heard that it’s a good idea to remove the grounding pin from one of the power cords to float the ground of one of the power supplies. Others have strongly advised against that.
What are the group’s thoughts on this?

No don’t do that. Safety earth is there for a reason.
Only one Burndy carries the mains earth connection from the PS to the ND555 chassis (where the signal ground to mains earth connection also occurs) so there would be no point lifting the mains earth connection on one of the supplies.
