In the original Qobuz application, display of credits for the track being played is clear, complete and permanent (jpg 1).
In the “Focal & Naim” application, unless I’m mistaken, I’m having a few problems:
The credits only appear if you click on the “Open booklet” option, after having clicked on the 3 little dots “…” to the right of the track played. (2 clicks).
Then click on the booklet image (+1 click), then on “Current track” (+1 click) to display the credits. Unfortunately, credits are often truncated, so you can’t see the composer’s name (jpg 2).
Summary: 4 clicks, to be repeated for each new track listened to, with the result that the information is often truncated…
The icing on the cake is that the “Open booklet” option is not available for the Android version (73% of smartphones) of the “Focal & Naim” app. So it’s impossible to get detailed information on the current track.
Conclusion.
To find out the composer’s name of the track I’m listening to, I have to use the original Qobuz app, with Bluetooth connection, and forget about the high-quality streaming of my beautiful Naim Nova.
Does anyone have another suggestion for accessing credits easily and permanently with the “Focal & Naim” app, including under Android?
Is Naim planning to improve it’s app, including for Android?
Why not use ChromeCast, which provides up to 192/24 resolution? Naim reps have commented on this forum that ChromeCast places a greater burden on the renderer, but AFAIK it works.
What type of account do you have with Qobuz? In the U.S. both the Studio and the Sublime offer 192/24. I have the Sublime on an iPhone and I can “cast” at that resolution.
Of course, the phone shouldn’t matter as long as it supports ChromeCast. Unlike Bluetooth (and AirPlay), ChromeCast simply redirects the stream from the source directly to the Nova.
And in any event, 44.1/16 is an improvement over Bluetooth.
Chromecast is a compromised feature which was never really designed to support high res streams properly, despite any claims about nominal max rates supported. Personally I wouldn’t bother with it.
Qobuz claim to be working on a Connect feature as offered by Tidal and Spotify which should give you what you want - eventually. For now, I would just use the Qobuz app to browse and the Naim app for control.
Beyond testing, I have not used ChromeCast with my Naim equipment. However, I have several $35 ChromeCast Audio pucks and have not had much difficulty using them with 96/24 streams.
