Football Season 2024/25

I’ll take what comfort I can from that (i.e. none!)

I thought your team looked to be a good championship side. You have to bear in mind Norwich have improved considerably under JHT.
I’ll be surprised if you are not in the top three at least come the end of the season.

Do you not have Sky Sports Dave? Loads of Championship games on it, especially this season. The Leeds one was on Sky Sports +.

Nah, never bothered with SkySports, usually, ahem, able to find The Mighty Whites games elsewhere.

A tad harsh  I prefer “realism”.

I’ve loved the last few years despite seeing that it obviously isn’t going to end well. However, I did start this season by saying 10th to 15th and I’m absolutely standing by that. We’ve made a great start but we will slowly drift downwards and do well to tickle the play off places.

There are at least 10 teams in this division with more money than us and that’s compounded by our market for buying players much better than the division we’re in being significantly reduced by being in L1. Parky has bought well but essentially bought players who will ensure we stay in L1 rather than head straight to the Championship. He’s never going to say that but ,looking at the market, he’d little choice.

I’m absolutely fine with that as we’re at least 2 years ahead of schedule and going up now with the ground still incomplete; the training infrastructure not in place; the academy not really having taken root and lacking the outside investment to maintain ourselves in \the Championship would mean we just come straight back down like a Rotherham or Peterborough.

@MDS oops

Yep, @suzywong. It was a dreadful, dreadful performance. Sloppy in possession, standing too far off opposition forwards, not tracking runners. We got what we deserved. We’ve had a tough run of fixtures to start with and a ridiculous number of injuries but the performances up until last night were mostly ok so I wasn’t too concerned. But after last night I’m now worrying. Oxford at home on Saturday is now a huge game.

If the Milwaukee Brewers experiment works at Norwich I’m sure there’ll be a stampede of clubs wanting to follow.
I hope it works or we could end up playing Kings Lynn as the local derby.

Ah yes. Are they still owned by Dracula or has he stepped back now? One of many dodgy character who tried to buy us.

So far so good!

Just when it seemed that The Mighty Whites would manage to hang on for a win against The Mackems, our goalkeeper had other ideas, with what will probably win the “Howler of the Season” award.

How very Leeds, as the game drew to a close with our usual ironic rendition of “and Leeds, Leeds are falling apart, again”.

A thoroughly professional performance ruined at the last by an absolute howler from Messlier. Makems will know they got away with one tonight. As for Leeds, hopefully the 2 dropped points won’t come back to haunt us. Beyond that I think we’ve looked better than 2 of our main rivals this week in their own middens. Gutted.

At least it happened early in the season - the whole team will learn from that and be on extra alert in future. I feel for Meslier, he has made some great saves already this season but a goalie’s errors are magnified.

What pleased me was how the new midfield of Rothwell/Tanaka performed, particularly the latter and given it was a third game in 6 days, I thought we looked like a really top outfit.

Just back from another wonderful performance from Norwich.
Hull had been in good form but in truth we should have scored more than four as we missed a penalty and two one on ones with the keeper.
The Sainz goal to cap things off is a candidate for goal of the month.
All the time I’ve been watching Norwich I’ve never seen a coach make such a difference as Thorup in such a short period of time, he may well be the best of them all. It’s certainly a joy to watch them at the moment.
Kamara’s appearance was greeted with a crescendo of boos that were well deserved.

We’ve dropped 4 points as a result of horrendous errors in the last minute of games - Messlier last night and Aaronson which was just as bad v Portsmouth. Against that we’ve seen no one better than us. Blades next. The real competition. Worth remembering that Norwich and the Makems dropped points at home to LUFC. We lost the game last season v Makems & we drew with Coventry at home so a good return from 3 games in 6 days. And it’s a marathon. Christmas generally sorts the contenders out.

As impressive as four goals (again) is, I am more heartened by the fact that, other than winning one nil, we actually kept a clean sheet!

Hope I’m not tempting fate, but the last two occasions the goals were flowing from many players, we were promoted…

Looking at the highlights I saw two very attacking teams with average defences. The Hull defending was especially laughable. Players within feet of an attacker and able to make a tackle instead putting their hands behind their back and turning away for the first goal; winning the ball and stopping an attack but then failing to just hoof it for the third and a basic error from the keeper in coming out for the last goal when there was a defender there. They had enough chances for that to have been a lot closer. Goes to show how much fine margins matter. Online Norwich fans correctly saying it could have been 8 but equally acknowledging that the Hull high line made it far too easy. Hull fans rightly pointing out that Norwich gave them enough chances to have won but their approach to defence turned a potential draw or narrow win into a shambles.

Still, really nice to see how the merest sniff of competent attacking can breed optimism.

Nothing changes for me yesterday. A Northampton team who aren’t as bad as their league position but also aren’t mid table. A couple of decent players but well short of having enough to do anything.mWe’ve had three or four big injury blows but only needed to play at around 70% to win at a canter really. The goal we conceded shows just how much the loss of young Max for a month could damage us. A man left alone from a set piece. Really not what we’ve done for three years.

McClean takes the headlines for two goals and an assist but otherwise was poor. All the plaudits go to Barnet. Absolutely unplayable and really had four assists. For once even the inebriated sponsors couldn’t get MOTM wrong.

Two very difficult away games coming up after Lincoln at home was postponed for international call ups. If we can come out of those with two points or more I will be more than happy.

The Norwich defence has improved considerably since last season.
The transition depending on where the attack is coming from is far better resulting in cover being available.
Cordoba and Doyle are a big improvement on last year’s line up and Fisher is looking a real find. Thorup has even turned Duffy into a decent defender compared to last year.
The best thing at the moment is the continued improvement under a coach who states we still have a way to go whilst producing football that is easy on the eye.
I expected this to be a transition year but we are well ahead of schedule which was confirmed by the Leeds game.
We no longer hold our breath every time the opposition enter our half of the field.

Which they only drew. It’s not going too well, is it? I do hope things pick up soon. It looks like it’s going to be a challenge to stay in the Championship.

I agree. Pompey played better yesterday and should have won (missed a pen) but too many players don’t look of Championship standard.
