Another disappointing performance tonight against Sheffield Wednesday. We may have half the side out injured but that doesn’t excuse tonight’s lacklustre performance.
No Kenny McLean no drive, easy to see why Farke, Smith, Wagner and Thorup rate him so highly.
Ben Knapper has done a great job but I was surprised he gave Long a three year contract as from what I’ve seen he is not championship quality. Tonight’s performance only confirmed my view.
Hope the missing are back soon as we don’t look much of a team without them!
Playing without a goalkeeper doesn’t appear to be working.
Went to Truro City tonight to watch first floodlit game at new stadium. I believe 2,800 crowd is a record. Fantastic 15 minute firework display before the game but relatively few fireworks on the pitch.
Again, another late Truro goal (94th of 95 minutes) secured 1 - 1 draw against Chippenham.
A bad defeat that against a Wednesday team expected to fly this season but struggling to get into 1st gear. Amazing how people forget the role injuries have in every season.
Our win against Wycombe on the opening weekend of the season looks increasingly impressive. Stockport struggling, but few will have seen tonight’s result coming. Hard to see us doing the same in 2 weeks time when we travel to Stockport but just as hard to see where the goals come from on Saturday when 3rd plays 4th. Mullin isn’t match fit. Marriott out for the season. Palmer playing his best since his first season but can’t do it by himself. Faal looks raw and Bodvarsson is neither match fit nor especially a goal scorer. None of it helped by Parky’s desired first choice midfield simply not functioning.
We’ve very slowly slipped from 1st to 3rd but it’s a short slip to 7th and, as I’ve predicted all season, we are heading down not up. I didn’t see injuries and poor team selection being the cause but whatever.
No doubt it’s just coincidence but since we redeveloped our training facilities to compare with the best our injury list seems to have worsened.
The injury problems early on in the season has been an issue for the past 5/6 seasons.
Incredibly bad luck or something wrong with the training procedures?
I hope City are no worse than anybody else but we do seem to have frequent long term injuries. Over half the team out before Xmas strikes me as excessive.
We didn’t seem to have many injury problems when Ron Saunders took training!
Back to trekking at Mousehold Heath then!
PS - I have joked here several times that we appear to do a lot of our player recruitment in the hospital casualty wards & that new signings are spotted by ambulances, rather than Ferraris, in the players car park . I am beginning to think that there may be some truth to this.
If you are proved to be correct Mike, then we are already well ahead of you in all areas.
The silly season has started, Coventry have sacked Mark Robins. They’ll end up with a Lampard/Gerard ‘marquee’ appointment. Unsurprisingly fans not happy - see below
Fair play. The decision is a whole new level of stupid.
I wished we’d gone for Robins after Farke was sacked.
A couple more poor results & we might yet…
I think JHT is a good coach but not a lucky one. Prior to the injuries we looked as good as anybody in the league.
The problem is our squad depth is very thin.
Yes, Marriot scored the L1 goal of the season; was our leading scorer; won that award and is now out for the season after breaking his leg when he slipped on a sprinkler during training. I feel your pain.
Yes, I see a red card or long term injury on the horizon.
God, I’m starting to sound like @mikehughescq !
I do believe that you began the season rather more pesimistic than either of us?
Behave
I just said that given the money in the division 10th to 15th would be highly satisfactory. Absolutely standing by that too.
