Football Season 2024/25

Think he’d given up by then and knew his time was up.

Gutted at our loss to Harrogate. Leeds v Wrexham would have been perfect for me. Leeds supporting mate in York. We’re both ex Leeds students etc.

“… more than hearsay”.

A mate I did coaching badges with at York City many moons ago is a coach at Leeds. My age but fairly new to the regime. Lots of interesting stuff to leak.

What happens in Thorp Arch stays in Thorp Arch.

Nah, all football clubs leak like crazy. You just need to know one person and loads of stuff falls into place.

It’s strange he doesn’t want a 10 as he frequently used one at Norwich to supply Pukki.

I think it’s more that he’s satisfied with his current options for a 10. Given their league position you can sort of see his point. At EFL level you are going to lose some gages no matter how good you are and the argument that just one thing would fix that is the duet of thing fabs decide but which is rarely borne out by the reality.

I think we’d be a much more threatening team if we dropped McClean and played with 2 pro[wr wing backs. It’s an obvious weakness for many of our fans but given that we’ve been top 7 all season what do I know.

It’s not about changing one thing to make everything alright. It’s about finding a way to beat teams playing a particular way against us - teams that crowd out the last third & neutralise our flanks (it cost us promotion). Many of us are understandably nostalgic for a Pablo replacement but, more importantly, we also see a problem playing a bits and pieces player at 10 rather than a specialist. We have other issues (I’ve mentioned some I see above) but I’m realistic enough to realise we can’t solve every problem at once given FFP/availability of funds. I don’t buy the ‘Farke doesn’t want a 10’ leak. I might accept ‘Farke doesn’t want the 10 he’s been offered’!

The other issue which divides us here of course is we, the LUFC fans, want Farke to succeed :grinning: And I’m just a fan, I don’t have coaching badges so I accept I’m likely talking total nonsense but as a fan that’s part of the fun - tap room coaching.

Yes, that’s all that’s been leaked. He has been offered multiple 10s but hasn’t wanted any of them simply because he thinks what he has will get him through. In January you are looking at making a signing in a position which will surprise a fair few of your fans.

We’re in a similar position. Clearly need a replacement for the injured Marriott. A left wing back who can play that position and a ball winning midfielder. Unlikely to get all we want and it’s harder to make the case for any of them given our position.

Wonderful night of football at the Cae Ras. After the dismal hoofball at Stockport we’ve reeled off three home wins in fine style against three teams who will all be in the mix at the end of the season. No goals conceded and Brunt, Matty James and Rathbone have been an absolute revelation. All three opposition teams could argue they deserved something from their respective games but all three got nothing.

We went through two keepers last night and they only had one save to make between them. The back three plus James and Rathbone ran the show. The winning goal was thoroughly deserved no matter how late it arrived and only their keeper kept them in it. We’ve just made three damn good teams look ordinary. Felt very appropriate that last nights retro programme cover was from 96/97.

Burnley v Boro … tense stuff. Decent game in terrible conditions. Doak and Djiksteel outstanding

@twofifty, Looking forward to Tuesday night. Should be a good game. The two best sides in the league in my opinion.

I’m worried about Derby for now & getting to the game in the impending storm. I can’t see past Wilder + 1 tbh. But Tuesday should be a good game.

@twofifty, If I’m honest, for me, the top two will be from Blades, Leeds, Burnley and Boro as things stand at the moment. Sunderland to drop away.

If Middlesbrough can cut out the unforced errors that have cost us so many points this season I think we’ve got every chance of a top two finish. Carrick has assembled a really strong squad with cover in all positions. I’m optimistic but I’ve probably cursed them now

The Mighty Whites were in complete control of today’s game at Elland Road against an ineffectual Derby side, who had little to offer.

The win sees us ease our way back to the top of the league, well until tomorrow at least, when The Blades take on West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Happy days.

Some things never change.

Near the foot of the table?

Don’t worry. Along come Norwich…

How can you go from looking top of the table to looking bottom of the table in one week?
Along came Norwich indeed!

File that one under ‘just another day at the office’. Derby tried the ‘low block’ but in truth weren’t good enough to make it work. We move on to Boro for whom I’d suggest the game’s a must win if they harbour hopes of finishing top 2. A draw would be ok for lufc. Should be a good game.

Pompey win 3-0. Fantastic.

Filthy day and I’ve a filthy cold but winning 0-1 scoring direct from a corner will do. 4 straight wins and no goals conceded. We’re not bad.

I watched it on the TV. Best performance of the season so far. Colby Bishop makes such a big different for us. With him we have a proper target man up front who can hold the ball up, lay it off intelligently, unsettle the opposition centre-backs and, of course, score. The whole team showed energy and intensity and simply outworked Bristol City. I was expected Bristol C to be much, much tougher opposition but they weren’t. Lee Manning’s, their manager, post-match interview was spot on.

Norwich at home on Tuesday night will be very interesting. I wasn’t expecting them to get thumped at QPR.

@twofifty, @dave-marshall, If I was to place a bet on the match I guess I’d have Leeds to win but a result for Boro is definitely possible. We’ll almost certainly score.

A win would be helpful but a draw or even a defeat wouldn’t be the end of the world at this stage of the season. Six or seven points to catch up for an in form side with half a season left isn’t that much of an ask.

Looking forward to a good game. One that will show how good Championship football can be. May the best team win.
