A very enjoyable and very feisty East Anglia derby. I thought Ipswich benefited from the penalty decisions - one given to them that wasn’t, the other denied to Norwich in the 2nd half, but they created the best chances in the game and so deserved the victory. Nunez lost his head and nearly let his team down. On two occasions should have been given a second yellow. His manager saved him. Good advert for the Championship.
Good ad for the Championship and a derby played like a derby. Second place now for Ipswich to lose really.
Posting post match it looks somewhat like an unwise post………
I am more a pessimist by nature, having had a 46 year insurance career based on telling people the worst that can happen to them & then what they can do to reduce the likelihood of it happening, so I had, unusually, gone against type & convinced myself that we would easily beat Ipswich today. So, far more than usual, I am extremely disappointed at what was, for me, a totally unexpected result.
It seems that we reverted to old habits by not really turning up for a high profile match and, by what appears by common consent, were also the victims of several terrible refereeing decisions.
When it’s not your day, it’s not your day. Other than local prestige, it’s just as well the match was otherwise important to us.
Clement really needs to pick the side up & aim for a strong finish for the sake of moral over the summer & to make any transfer targets aware that Carrow Road really is where they should be next season.
We need Sheffield United and Southampton to win. Both are losing.
You generally find that if a team brings their own referee they will win.
The penalty that never was set the pattern.
Why Nunez was allowed to kick two of our players while on a booking is a mystery only the ref can answer. It was so bad that the Binners hooked him after twenty minutes of coming on as sub, plenty good enough for the little rat!!!
Don’t worry about Clement and moral we’ll be in a very good position next season. By the way the incompetent in charge booked Clement as well, presumably for pointing out he didn’t know what he was doing.
The penalty that wasn’t allowed them to pack their penalty area for the remainder of the game. They were also allowed to kick the proverbial out of anything that moved with their 34% possession.
There seems to be 100% agreement about today’s referee. We do seem to get more than our share of dreadful decisions. I don’t recall too many occasions when we were lucky to get that penalty, not have so & so sent off etc.
I feel it’s important for Clement to maintain moral & work on the ‘winning mentality’. If we are to make a serious attempt at achieving Premier status next season, history has shown that you need to be almost constant winners to get out of the Championship. It’s not good enough to have half a dozen good games followed by an equal number of bad ones on a regular basis. You can only really afford one or two such dips a season if you want direct promotion.
Hull down to 10 men though.
And sheff u go 2-1 up. Personally, I don’t think we’d make it up through the playoffs anyway. We need another years baking in the Championship at least.
Today was a travesty. Penalty that wasn’t allowed Ipswich to pack their penalty box. We attacked non stop but didn’t get the rub of the green and unfortunately became very frustrated.
Dare I say it, pity we didn’t have VAR. Penalty wouldn’t have been allowed and we’d have been playing ten men.
Is there a calculation for this? ![]()
What’s your normal share?
I’d guess they’re stared around fairly equally. Some games they matter. If you’re good enough they generally don’t.
I’d be happy to sit at this level for years and just avoid the PL destroying us.
Phew. Both teams delivered in the end. As predicted, Saints now in a position to rise even higher. Derby not quite entirely out of it yet. I’d take a draw tomorrow. A win would be really helpful.
One more win for Cardiff and they’re back too.
You rang, Sir?
Ditto!

A smash-and-grab by Pompey at Boro this afternoon. Our luck has been awful in recent weeks so maybe we deserved a bit today. With Oxford winning, too, it’s nerve-shreddingly tight at the bottom of the Championship. The Tractor Boys at home on Tuesday night will be immensely difficult and then……home to fellow strugglers Leicester next Saturday. Think I need to lay down ![]()
I had to laugh; in the week we saw off the Gooners and thrashed Hollywood away…..Mr. Eckert’s verdict on Saints’ come-from-behind victory
"It was our best game of the week…..”
Well done Pompey!
