When I was doing the UCCA round in ‘72, Uni Kent at Canterbury were my third choice.
But ended up in Manchester…..coz they had two First Division football teams

Well Pompey were really poor at home to Derby this evening. The stats say we had 65% possession but we always looked shaky at the back and I don’t think we created a really good chance in the whole game. Derby didn’t look good. They didn’t need to be. All they needed to do was be organised when out of possession and await the chances. They did and Pompey obliged. We’ve made quite a few signings but it’s shaping up to be another season of struggle. 
I have used a common phrase to Norwich fans “then along came Norwich” & assumed all on here, except @JohnF, would think I was trying to make a joke.
I wasn’t, most of the time it is simply a fact. Any struggling side can’t believe their good fortune when they find that their next fixture is against us.
By all accounts tonight, we were awful. A sizable minority claiming that we are worse than our shambolic performances before last Christmas.
Scraping, barrel & bottom come to mind when I look at our summer recruitment which appears to have replaced 3 or 4 players with 3 or 4 with less ability than the departing ones, certainly no more. I felt we needed 7 or 8 new first teamers but it looks as if we couldn’t find enough free transfers. Either that or the club can’t afford to borrow any more money from it’s owner at extortionate interest rates. Whilst unlikely, I suppose it’s possible that the owner is refusing to pay the high interest rates to himself that he is demanding.

According to Radio Solent it was fairly end to end stuff at St Andrews this evening, and a draw probably fair with Birmingham and Saints both left rueing missed chances.
Saints are away at Lincoln on Saturday.
On a more important note, RIP Pompey legend Alan Knight. The city will mourn him, a player of more than 800 appearances for his club. There was talk on Solent this morning of a stand being named after him at Fratton Park.
I think we’ve improved our squad during this window. Brooks looks very good. Our problem is Clement keeps making poor changes. Chrisene had a good game against Burnley and was dropped. Stacey was terrible Saturday and non existent as a defender but remains to give another goal away tonight that cost us the game. Fisher is in a different league to Stacey defensively but stays on the bench.
Slimane was non existent Saturday but retains his place as the number 10 and Schwartau, who had a good game as the 10 on Saturday is moved out to the wing where he is less effective. Slimane was once again non existent.
No wonder we looked a shambles.
The sooner Makama and Maghoma are fit the better!

You see the team regularly John & I don’t so, in the long run I hope you are right.
The view from Cornwall is very much as I have said above & is echoed by my best friend & former business partner who lives near but hails from Norwich originally.
His son lives & works in the city & is a season ticket holder like yourself & is a good friend of Wes Hoolahan. His current view of the team is somewhere between yours & mine but, like us, beginning to be concerned that Clement is starting to be a lot like Manning in playing too many players out of position & continuing to leave better players on the bench.
You know I am not a fan of MA. He doesn’t have concerns about him, but is neutral at present, claiming “the jury is still out”.
Only the first day of September but, like the last two seasons, 8th place is already starting to look a little optimistic.

An understandably nervy but important win for Luton tonight against an always useful Stockport side: we needed a confidence boost & hopefully this will prove to be the catalyst. The first half was forgettable football from both teams. Our first goal lifted the pressure and our second was an absolute belter. Two new (loan) signings fielded tonight and showed obvious signs of needing more time to fit in. So Mansfield who battered us then got suitably battered themselves this evening…..tres bizarre.

The weird joys of the start of the season.
Equally bizarre things going on with Bromley. 12 goals conceded in 2 games by one of the most miserable defences in the league.
I won’t read too much into our victory tonight. Essentially we’ve started like last season. 3 games without a win and then along come Millwall. A fine team decimated by injury and the loss of their best player to Brighton.
The most significant things tonight were that we dropped Broadhead from the squad completely, brought back the lovely Matty James and, along with Windass, they ran the game even with an unexpected change of formation from Millwall. Both Broadhead and Vyner should be nowhere near the team so it was noticeable that the return of young Maxy at right back allowed the rest of the back 3 to chill, do their jobs and confine Millwall to zero shots on target.
Very pleased that experts have identified Doyle and Imray as our 2 obvious PL players but continue to not mention young Max. It was great to see him back tonight but he also put in a MOTM performance. Well pleased with that.

Putting aside that the NYT love us because we sell papers this is a decent summary.
Massive relief to see in black and white that Harvey is finally out of the way. A little surprise at the implication Williamson may have struggled because it was new to him. He handled transfers at Inter Milan for goodness sake.

It’s been reported that Hugh Jackman wants to buy a share in Norwich City. I know he’s a fan and his mother lives in Norwich.
After years of Delia telling us nobody was interested this makes a change.

With the exception of Coventry I thought that was exactly how last season started.
I hope it ends as last year ended at least.
If Clement sticks with today’s back four I’m sure we’ll be there or there abouts.

Sounds like an excellent performance today along with the result.
Would be good if we could string a few performances like this together rather than go from one extreme to another each game.
As has been said, a lot of strange results from many teams so far.

“Interesting” incident at Portsmouth.
More than happy with our 0-0 given that Parky rang the changes everywhere bar defence and we got a second consecutive clean sheet.
