Forum Album of the Year 2022

As the year draws to a close it’s time for a bit of fun and choose a Forum Album of the Year. Post your favourite album or albums and towards the end of December I will count up the top 10 albums and put them to a formal vote so we can crown a winner. New albums only please so those of you about to type ‘Revolver’ or ‘Animals’ can put your itchy fingers away. It would be helpful if you could say why you chose your favourite album. Remember it’s just a bit of fun.

My favourites of the year are:

Loyle-Carner - hugo
Arctic Monkeys - The Car
Bill Callahan - Reality
Peter Jablonski - Chopin: Complete Mazurkas Vol 1
Beth Orton - Weather Alive
Steve Lacey - Gemini Rights
Jack White - Entering Heaven Alive
black midi - Hellfire
Brian Jackson - This is Brian Jackson
Spiritualized - Everything Was Beautiful
Alt-J - The Dream

And my favourite from these is …

Hellfire - black midi. This is very marmite and I’m sure won’t make the Top 10 let alone win outright. This record is hard to classify but the reason I’ve chosen this as my favourite is that I became obsessed by it and kept on playing it on repeat. For making me feel like a teenager again this is my winner

Thanks for kicking this off for this year. I really like many of your suggestions- although I’m afraid your choice this year was indeed the wrong side of marmite for me!

My album of the year 2022 is Jack White- Entering Heaven Alive-why?
I enjoyed this much more than his previous recent album.
Sound quality and mastering on vinyl excellent. Priced as all new vinyl should ie low £20’s

My top two have been ruled out :frowning:

My top 3

Spoon “Lucifer on the Sofa”
Wilco "Cruel Country
And the enigmatic Arctic Monkeys “The Car”.

Also particularly enjoyed this year

Suede “Autofiction”
Wet Leg (eponymous)
Bonny Light Horseman “Rolling Golden Holy”
The Beths “Expert in a Dying Field”
Anaïs Mitchell (eponymous)
Curse of Lono “People in Cars”

Biggest disappointment, Lambchop “The Bible”. Just left me cold.

Hope someone finds something to explore in this list.

But they’re not new albums are they - great though they are

On Friday, I asked my son’s music-mad friend (both 17yrs old) what his fav album was this year, and he said the Black Midi album. Will have to investigate.

And here we go again. I think I’ll just sit this one out.

Yes we have been here before with Bruce……have u heard his new album😉

No need to sit out - it’s all very good natured!

True for most people but some unfortunately think their opinion is more valid than others. I’ll wait until the list is finalised as tbh I haven’t really heard an album that blew me away this year.

No problem but if there is something you want to
put forward then give it a go. As an OP I’m a benign dictator!
