Forum Factory Visit - Summer 2025

Damn how did I miss this need to stay more alert!

Actually, I have another thought/business idea. I am not sure Naim have thought of this already, but if they have and dismissed the idea then OK. Here is the idea:-

As I understand it some on the forum believe The Naim Sound :trade_mark: has changed slowly over the years since the early days and through all the different ranges. I am pretty sure that with modern technology in the core equipment one could have App settings where customers could select from for example ‘Chrome Bumper - 1979’ or ‘Olive - 1990’ or ‘Classic - 1973’’ up to ‘NC200 - 2025’ for their own own personal listening experience.

I mean, for the ‘hair shirts’ amongst us there could even be a setting for ‘ND555 - October 2024’, to periodically switch to just to remind ourselves how much better the other settings actually are.

Hi Edmund, whilst I love the enthusiasm, I feel this would be significantly over stepping the mark on Naim’s hospitality and goodwill. However, I am happy to ask if they have any measurements they would be willing to share whilst there :+1:

Thanks for taking the time to read my request and also respond - much appreciated. I guess you will have realised that my request was in one way very cheeky but also very serious.

Personally, I cannot believe that Naim do not ALREADY POSESS such acoustic measurements (because of some of the new features in the CI range). Nevertheless if Naim do not already have this capability (to do repeatable and consistent acoustic measurements in Salisbury) my worry is that the competitive landscape is changing rapidly and Naim will ultimately fail.

PS: Are you going to post any more of your own measurements for your home, or are you waiting for the new HiFi cabinet and then redo the measurements for your setup at that point?

This is well off topic. Surely there is a more appropriate thread?

I have to agree with HH, and turning the visit into a science experiment to satisfy a curiosity of anyone, completely misses the point.

Yeah…music is about listening and enjoying…not analysing charts and figures.
Stick to the visit topic.

Hi All, I can see that a few are concerned that I have overstepped the generally considered acceptable boundary for thread drift.

Firstly, my apologies if I have upset anyone as I have no intention of creating offence.

Secondly, I am really, really, pleased for all of the selected participants for this trip as I myself have been lucky enough to visit Naim for a factory tour in the past.

Thirdly, I have enough posting on this forum for people to generally understand and even anticipate what I might post on a given topic.

Nevertheless, the final observation I want to post here on this thread, because to me it is relevant.

Consider this: if one was lucky enough to be selected (in the past centuries) to have a conducted tour of the workshop of Antonio Stradivari, would it be unreasonable to ask him how he checks and tests his instruments?

I’m guessing his answer would be much the same as mine, “i play them…if i like the sound they are good to go, more importantly, if my customers like the sound they fly out the door”.

How could I miss this … 21 should work… I throw my name in. Would love to come.
Edit: oops - too late

Do you need sl2 tweeters?

Same here - I was „too late“… so we meet next time, ok?

Personally I would have no interest asking him.
You have to understand that most of here have no interests in measurements, apart maybe 4 or 5 regular posters and some very occasional.
However I don’t criticise your interest.
Even my recent acoustic treatments were done by intuition, step by step , error, try, retry….and only by ears.
I can certify you that more than 90% persons here choose their equipment and neither based on listening and emotions involved, no measurements.

By playing and listening… same as music… you’ve proved my point.

Let’s move on.

Surely a factory visit is to see and hear what they are doing, not to tell them what they should be doing.

Naim will conduct the factory tour. They are boss. It’s not for visitors to bring cables and test equipment. Having done the visit last year, we weren’t given the opportunity to listen to our music choices. It’s a tour and like I say Naim dictate what happens.

The lucky ones should enjoy it. I certainly did.

They decide what happens, not you!

Yes please Richard. Salt Lane before Julian.

Oh Dan, thanks for chipping in here, something must have changed because on the visit I was on, we were permitted to make requests for our favourite short track (one per person).

Philip, you’ve missed this one, but there will be another before year end. Just keep an eye out on the forum when I post a thread asking who wants to have their name put in the hat for it.

The visit will usually include a tour of the factory and some input from a few key figures. It ends with some demos in the dem room, and if there’s time then there may also be the opportunity to play some tracks of your choosing.
