I was lusting after a pair of these, but baulked at the price. Then, whilst trawling t’internet, like you do, discovered a pair €400 cheaper because of box damage.
Hook line and sinker. Dribbling in anticipation of delivery on January 7th. I’ll have to get out of the house after dark.
The IS system is amazing. Rock solid imaging. The large front lenses let in an enormous amount of light for pin-sharp clarity.
"Down"sides: they’re heavy, but hey! It’s all exercise, right? Also, the eye covers are circular and the rubber is a bit stiff. This makes them a bit uncomfortable when trying to lose the sideways light ingress. I’ve ordered a pair of after-sale face shaped replacements.
Minor niggles really. A superb bit of kit. First night time use enabled instant recognition of Jupiter and it’s moons, masses of stars in what looked to the naked eye like empty space and clearly visible satellites motoring across the sky.
I recommend them over the 18x50 version. Dropping below 4.5° field of vision would be too narrow, I think.
We have had the smaller 12 x 36 version for many years.
They have been great, but the rubberised (?) coating has degraded over time and is slightly “sticky”.
We have even talked about getting another pair; “his” and “hers” , and those would be the 15x50.
They are £1150 in the UK, so getting €400 off is a steal. Have they got any more?
Bought a pack of four (Free From) mince pies in Sainsburys for 22p. Have until the 30th of January to eat them. Well the two that I haven’t already eaten.
