France 2023 Rugby World Cup

Sure, the All Blacks can win against Ireland. But it will take a miracle!

If Ireland win the Rugby Union World Cup, will Andy Farrell get a knighthood.

A fantastic test match between Ireland and the Springboks it’s the best match of the tournament so far I think one of those two teams will be the eventual winner.

South Africa’s lack of a dedicated kicker could cost them the tournament though and tonight they squandered too many points due to that. When a test match get’s as tight as this one was then a first class kicker like Sexton is essential and will make the difference.

It’s still in the pool stage, but that match was worthy of being a final, no matter which team won.
No foul play, no cards, just 80 minutes of ‘full on’ rugby. What a great display!

Ireland v South Africa- Tough game played in good spirit.

Pollard waiting in the wings as SA fly-half and goalkicker I think. Was injured.

Last night’s match between S Africa and Ireland was an incredible battle from start to finish. I sat on the edge of my seat throughout and it seemed it could have gone either way right up to the final blast of the ref’s whistle. If the match was played again (and it might be later in the competition!) the result would be anyone’s guess. The atmosphere after the match with the Cranberries blasting out over the PA system was pure euphoria for the Ireland fans and, quite honestly why not for the S African fans also - a heck of a night to remember with rugby the ultimate victor!

Can’t see the All Blacks getting past Ireland in the Qtrs , assuming they get there and not flogged by Italy :weary:

Wobblies are certainly living up to their name. Lots of individual skill but really not playing like a team. At this rate will be Wales v Argentina and Fiji v England?

Take a bow the Welsh team – that was 15-man rugby, albeit much in defence, but with well executed creativity at crucial times in the game. I’m tempted to say the Aussies played like England under Jones, with little creativity and some errant discipline.

Despite the traditional England / Australia rivalry I sincerely hope Australia bounce back from this. Rugby needs a wallaby team that can compete and challenge at the highest level. Perhaps a rebuild is required.

But will not be with EJ. The ARU has to get a coach to develop a team for the Lions in 2 years and a home RWC in 4. Bold decision making needed.

There might be a few more joining the queue yet……

Yep you never know Mike

But overall not good for rugby down under , we need strong teams including NZ, Aus, Fiji , pacific island other teams and Japan for that matter if we are to compete

I feel for the young Aussie lads

Materclass from Wales and Gatland. Precise, disciplined and effective. Very much a team performance.

Australia were poor, and seemed to get worse. They looked rather bewildered in defeat and yet clearly have talented individuals. England under EJ had a very bad habit of giving away silly penalties in their own half, he has infected Australia now. Surely he is history.

No unhappy Welsh people after that.

Well Eddie does turn around teams ala England after 2015 and then he got them to the 2019 RWC final demolishing the ABs along the way

Then he loses the plot

Another question which arises from the 2 x very good performances so far, is why didn’t England seek out Gatland? Fair to say that Wales, on paper, have the same quality squad as England (less so in the forwards?), yet they have developed a very solid game of defence and attack, the latter which England can only dream of! It seems putting on the red shirt comes with tins of spinach , noting some of the forwards, unlike other nations, played the full game (or just about) yesterday.

One thing I intensely dislike though, even though Jones can be prickly, is why did ITV see fit to start challenging him about his position straight after the match, as they do with the football managers. It was aggressive questioning & baiting of the worst order IMHO.

I thought Wales very quickly snapped up Gatland with a new contract when EJ was heading for the exit?
