Anyone who likes Lambchop, Ohio, should listen to their other albums, Is a Woman, and Nixon.

There is no album or track I do not have on my server. One of my most favorite bands … love their concerts.

Is a woman is an album wich has so much magic and does sound superb on every system

Quite appropriate for 3.12 testing….

Am finding the imaging on 3.12 fantastic.

Love a bit lambchop, think I’ll give them some air time now!

Sounds like 3.12 has put the cats amongst the pigeons….

It is favorite album of all time. That is for sure. You should listen to the extended version with „this corrosion“ as extra track

@drago The original is not bad either

Guess - I am a child of the 80s … first and last and always was a well loved album back in the days. As of Lambchop I also own all the old stuff of the sisters.
And from Depeche Mode and the the, soft cell, early Marc almond stuff, fad gadget, etc

@Stu299 have you upgraded your ND555 to firmware v3.12 yet? I’ve been using it for a while and can finally recommend it (I’ve had to remain silent through beta testing). You can then sell your NDS, connect both PS units to your ND555 and consign all these anxieties to the bin of experience.

Or keep the NDS also, next ND555 FW maybe ruins the sound again

Hi @NO-QUARTER

If I’m reading the documentation correctly, both the NDS and the NDX use the UPnP communication protocol, whether streaming from a Naim Uniti Core or from any other UPnP server.

And, unless I’ve misunderstood something, the streamed files are unpacked locally on the client side (i.e. within the streamer itself), rather than on the server side.

I’m sure @Simon-in-Suffolk will be able to elaborate further, as networking is very much his area of expertise.

As for the WAV versus FLAC discussion, I personally haven’t noticed any significant difference, even with a reasonably revealing system (a full Naim 500DR setup with Magico S3 speakers, in a treated room).

Likewise, I’ve never found network cables to make a particularly obvious difference in my own system.

That said, I should probably add that I’m not especially inclined to go searching for very subtle differences…

Cheers,

Thomas

Correct, upon effectively sends chunks of an encoded file to the streamer, which then reads and decodes those pieces of file and then extracts or transcodes the audio data from the file to send to the DAC.

SPDIF which you use a DC1 for is one way data streaming protocol, where the encoded data is split into channels and sample size. Therefore the amount of reconstruction by the streamer with SPDIF is very limited and requires very little processing overhead

I was at the Royal Albert Hall for Wake. Some gig

I’m back to ND555 with dual PS and I’m appreciating it all the more. It’s a breath taking sound.

I hope my conclusions were interesting/useful. I’m a relative novice in this field and everything I reported was my humble but honest opinion only.

Sorry @Igel I didn’t switch the PS. My rack is very close to the wall and swapping burndies is mentally frustrating doing it by feel, and physically wrist-breaking!

I found the whole comparison thing quite draining and I just wanted to enjoy the sound again.

@Clive I haven’t upgraded the FW. I love this sound and it’s not a risk I’m prepared to take. I’ve just connected a Limetree optical to take care of radio duties.

Just realised @drago i didn’t rollback the NDS FW and compare. That is something I will do so bear with me

Thanks a lot for your nds/nd555 journey. It was a pleasure to follow it. Enjoy the wonderful nd555 on 2ps :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

For me, ND555 3.8 versus NDS 4.9 there’s a clear winner.

I doubt I’ll upgrade FW on the ND555 until @drago confirms it’s time to do so.

I see ,no problem, you could someday try to swap the two on your ND555 to see if there is a sound difference.
Yes there are many parameters like the 4.9 on the NDS,which is not considered the best and so on…

Now you do have a USB stick,so you can do local streaming and get a much better sound than Tidal etc on the ND555 also :+1:
