Two more from the south facing bedroom.

The echinopsis (?) has produced a flower.
The gymnocalcium appears to be budding and ready to bloom.

Gradually learning the cacti groupings. I am sweeping all the tropicals away from under my uv lights and replacing them with other less demanding plants. Streptocarpus blooms up shortly.

A bit over a week ago I’ve taken some branches of the existing Aster and replanted them. The good news is that one of them has clearly died but the others seem fresh. It’s a bit early but I have a feeling that the experiment is going to be successful given that some are looking good compared to the one dying.

Isn’t the blossom wonderful at this time of year?

This is just outside my house

Outside the back door. Clematis hybridised x2. Sadly never seen a pollinator anywhere near it.

So we offer the bees Cerinthe. Much appreciated.

Well that should stop the slugs eating the Marigolds this year. Maybe!

We haven’t had frogs in our pond for the last 2 years but they are back this year!

My thyme is in bloom , part of my small herb garden . Most plants are “scavenged” like this type which came from the Waitrose herb section or this mint likewise

The mint came for some new potatoes a couple of weeks ago and has really blossomed in very little time

The angelica self seeds and puts on a stunning display at this time of year (picture taken ten minutes ago)

Not a herb, but the columbine, brazenly profligate, promiscuous and popping up anywhere is one of my garden favourites

Adenium in flower. Cute plant.

I thought this Acer was dead late last autumn when it looked like lifeless bare stick stuck in a pot. However it survived winter to take on an odd appearance of a very healthy looking low-branch from a rather poorly looking rest of plant.

Don’t know how to manage this (?) don’t like the idea of lopping off that lower branch when it’s the only healthy part of the plant.
Maybe leave it as is and transplant the whole thing into a larger pot.
I have got a nice large pot that needs something to grow in it

Can you take a close up of the bottom area where that low branch is coming from. I think it’s coming from below the graft point.

Yes that’s below the graft line. That branch is growing from the rootstock, this is why the leaves are different to the rest of the tree. You need to remove it asap or it will take over and the top will eventually die. Also, if it was me, I’d shorten the top two branches by nearly half. I would wait 2months before doing so though.

Yes that makes sense, funny i had an idea this may happen.
So cut close up to the trunk?

I cut flush with the main stem on acers that size and let it heal over. A lot of people leave 1/4” stub.

Take your pick😀

Started weeding around the base of the cherry tree on the weekend - mostly moving things and pulling by hand but did use the strimmer but got twitched when a frog hopped out. Same the next day I used it to finish the job.
