Giro d'Italia 2022

Saturday 21st May

Stage 14 Santena - Torino (153km)

Today is one of those full of action stages that would be good to see live

What a great race today, lots of action indeed. I really liked the “loop” and seeing them tackle Colle de la Maddelena two times. On the second go, I noticed a fan banner across the road saying benvenuto a l’inferno… exactly so!

Enjoy your highlights tonight. (No spoilers from me here)

Thanks again for a great thread @Debs

What a great stage. Full of unpredictability and drama - classic Giro! And some stunning scenery.
Congratulations to Simon Yates. Nice to see Nibali delighting the home crowd in his last tour season, now 8th overall. Valverde 10th. Amazing so far from the ‘old guard’.
Tomorrow’s stage will also be hard and should confirm Carapaz or Hindley for GC?
Look forward to more thrills next week.

Agreed. I am by no means a “cyclist” in any way, shape or form (especially the latter  - come to think of it, not in any way!), but always read and appreciate @Debs curating these threads.

Impressive stage win from Simon Yates, nice to see him get some reward in this Giro.

A hard day for the GC contest, it was on the cards that 24 year old Juanpe López Maglia Rose would come to an end, but he did really well to hold it for 10 days :grinning: :+1:
Team Trek maybe relieved of the pressure, and resume the quest for a stage win now.

Stage 15 Rivarolo Canavese - Cogne (177km)

This is a very tuff looking day today, it’s probable a non-threat to GC breakaway will be allowed to go, the stage winner is likely to be someone who had an easier ride yesterday.
But the summit finish will produce another spectacular effort from the GC contesters on the final climb to Cogne.

An amazing finish, the sizeable break-away is reduced on the final climb to just Jan Hirt’s stage win and 2nd place Arensman before the GC battle takes over the scene. Jai Hindley’s 3rd place stage finish awards him a time bonus that put him only 3 seconds behind the Malia Rose, Carapaz.

It is now obvious the main GC threat to Carapaz is Jai Hindley, plus the Bora-hansgrohe is looking a lot stronger than the Grenadiers.

The Queen of the Dolomites broke a few more hearts today! The way it unfolded was not so much dramatic as slow building pressure cooker. Looks like the die is now cast for the Giro.

Stage 21 Verona - Verona Individual Time Trail (17.1km)

Yesterday, Jai Hindley did what was needed to gain enough seconds to cushion any loses against Carapaz in today’s time trial.
Although Carapaz is considered the better time trialist, it is unlikely the 17km course has the distance to gain enough time on Hindley who has a 1-25 advantage.
