Do the trial. Listen for differences. Decide whether you prefer these differences, it’s important not to fall into the trap of assuming that difference = improvement.
Great, this is what I like.
I came across the ‘Solid Sounds Fraim style glass component isolation platform’. This is also looking good.
You might want to focus on isolating your preamp, especially if it’s also a Naim, rather than the 250DR. I’m using Alto-Extremo NeoFlex magnetic feet under my 282, and they’ve made a noticeable improvement. I also tried OREA, but only under the speakers, and the bass disappeared. I’m not sure how they would perform under amps.
I wanted to start with the 250DR and have a 282 + NAPSC + HiCap DR (and looking for a NDX 2).
The Orea’s are designed to be placed under components not speakers. Isoacoustic Gaia’s are to be used with speakers.
It was between my bookshelf speaker and the stand.
Cymbiosis stock the Naim balls and triangular cups. Don’t know if they do the glass but Solid-Sounds do a reasonably priced alternative, in clear or smoked glass.

Do you also use the ‘Naim Fraim Glass Locator Kit’?
I don’t. Having bought a FraimLite when I started out, I have not upgraded to FF Fraim but have glass shelves with Naim cups and balls, 3 per shelf. There is no need for the locators and by all accounts they make a sticky mess on the glass. Likewise no need for the vertical peg at the back of each glass shelf. I find that my black boxes are plenty heavy enough to ensure that everything stays in place. Without the locators it is a bit fiddly placing each black box but with a bit of perseverance it is do-able. I found it best to dismantle my stack and install each shelf, then each box, before adding the next level. Doesn’t take long. If I were starting from scratch
I’d probably buy a FF Fraim but I didn’t feel I could justify it having a FraimLite already.
I would like to see more pics of your setup since I’m looking at designing an oak cabinet in the same natural oak color.
Its been years since I’ve owned Fraim, but from memory there are recesses in the shelves that the cups that hold the ball bearings locate into. Presumably these are absent on your FraimLite and it looks like the cups are just placed on top of the shelves. If it were me I would be very concerned about these possibly sliding off the shelf and disaster following. Could you not attach some sort of ring around them for safety to prevent this? Would the locators meant for the glass work? I can’t remember exactly what they were like and like you I don’t think I actually used them. (I believe I was told by my dealer that it sounded better without them - but I could have dreamt that!)
Honestly it’s fine. If someone were to plough into the stand then it’s possible that a shelf might move off the ball bearings but that would hardly be a disaster. I worried about it at first and considered paying thousands for a full Fraim, but I don’t think about it any more. As I’ve said, I wouldn’t start from here, but I don’t think it worth changing now that I am here.
Happy to provide any pics you want - just say what you’d like to see - but this description should cover it all:
- Standard FraimLite
- Set of Fraim-sized bits of high-quality plate glass, 10mm. I found these online but they are easily made up by a glass merchant
- 15 genuine Naim cups and 15 genuine Naim ball-bearings, readily available online from TomTom or Cymbiosis. I can’t believe it is essential to have Naim bb’s but I bought them with the Naim cups for an easy life
- There are no indents on the FraimLite shelves for the 3 cups but they stay in place well enough due to the weight of the black boxes.
- A bit of patience setting it up, but once done forget about it.
No. The weight of my NDX2 and NAC52 is enough to hold it all.
No kids at home so it’s pretty safe.
Basically just a zoomed out version as to see the whole cabinet ![]()
Just save up for F-FF, or Powerline.
The anti resonant feet and case combined with Powerline will give you all the isolation you need.
Have had the same Quadraspire rack for about 8 years now. Had glass panes custom made and bought the cups and balls from an UK dealer. To what extent this has had any positive impact on the sound quality is anybody’s guess. ![]()
One thing I’ll say, having any tension in the cables on the back will ever so slightly move the black boxes over time and annoy you to no end. ![]()
One of my mates has a SN2 and a NDX, sitting on top of each other, on the floor, driving a pair of Proac standfloors with lamp wires found in the garage. It sounds amazing. I get to drink very strong beers every time I visit but still think his rig would sound great even when sober. ![]()
