Greetings

Greetings All,

Just saying hello as a Naim newbie having just bought the (phenomenal to me) Nait 5Si.

I graduated from a much loved Arcam A85 which stopped working after what feels like 20 years.

My sources include an upgraded Rega P1 Plus, a CA MXN10 streamer, CA DacMagic 200M and Qobuz.

The Nait 5 currently drives my Dali Spektor 2 speaks for nearfield listening and I’m absolutely spellbound and astonished by this combination.

Consequentially, I am now listening to and rediscovering music, in a way that I never enjoyed to this level before.

What an amazing amp - Wish that I’d discovered Naim 20 years ago

I will be hooking up my old REL Strata 3 subwoofer in coming days for extra extension (perhaps not needed, but I have it, so why not).

Cheers,

Giles

Welcome Giles.

Welcome @spring3r (Giles)
You can look forward to fun and lots of nice folks on the forum.
Where is home?

Welcome to the mad house Giles

Thanks guys, I live in the UK (midlands) with my wife, our son, our pack of 4 adopted greyhound rescues, and grand piano. Where are you guys from? YouTube suggests that Naim has a global following so I’m guessing you could be from pretty much anywhere.

The Netherlands, I’ve a Schimmel 130T

I have it shown in my profile …. Oxfurdshy’r U.K.

Wow. That Schimmel looks amazing

I’m not a pianist myself, but my son Alex is classically trained, and will be going to conservatoire when he finishes school (Chethams). He has a Bechstein A190 (seen here, in what used to be our dining room - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJbw96SlbVU)

I’ve been to Maarsen and Utrecht a couple of times with work over the years.

Best wishes,

Giles.

Welcome! Enjoy your Nait 5si. That was also my entry into Naim (Nait 5si and CD 5si). I upgraded to Nait XS3 and ND5XS2. The Nait 5si is a great amplifier and not insanely expensive. I am from The Netherlands b.t.w.

Welcome Giles from the “Stormy” North Cambridgeshire Fens.
Let’s have a picture of that system in the “System Pics” thread when you get a moment

LOL

Speak for yourself (literally )

Welcome… I’m also quite new here and you’ll find these forums a good place to be with some very helpful people and posts and references.

Like you my first piece of equipment from Naim was the 5si (3-4 years ago) and like you I was astonished to her the difference over previous amplifiers I owned. I bounced around from Rotel, Yamaha, Nad, Arcam back to Rotel, with slight improvements here and there… It was like spending money to add more treble and or bass.

Some of the obvious things I first noticed was the wide soundstage, instruments sounding separated, more weight and speed in the mids and bass. The other thing I noticed was I spent longer listening to music, with the old amps I clocked up 2 ish hours a day before I had enough and started feeling mild headaches (or listening fatigue). With the 5si listening times easily doubled and I still wanted more, but I had to do adult things like go to bed. It was just so good to rediscover albums I hadn’t listened to in a long while.

Hi-fi magazines in the mid 90’s to mid 2000’s always had good write ups on Naim and (to me) always looked good. I used to dream about owning some Naim equipment but was never sure if it was worth the cost. Having a listen in a shop with a perfectly square listening room with none of the components I owned was hard to gauge how good was is it? Was it down to the amp? The cd player? The speakers? The room? Or a a bit of all? Then one day I thought it’s about time I treated myself and thought the same as you… why didn’t I do this earlier?
