Grip and other discretions of amplifiers

Yesterday I was settling into Dire Straits Private Investigations HDCD CD and possibly discovered what members mean by grip. My amplifier is an XS2, volume level set at 9 o’clock with an average dB of 73 and a max of 87.1 using the app dB X on my iPhone. Which gives me about 14 dB of headroom for this amp my 84 dB SPL speakers.

I maybe going a little deaf in my left ear (audio test at local hearing aid shop) though I was chilled and in the zone.

People say that when they upgrade in amplifier specs that they feel or hear more grip and deeper bass. I had all this by turning up the volume pot from 8 o’clock to 9 o’clock. What I am trying to say is that the NAIT XS2 can pull its weight.

My better half had to shut me behind two doors : )

Warm regards,

Mitch in Regional Oz.

Nice to be able to let the xs2 stretch its legs. I find much the same with most of my combinations. There is a sweet spot where the combination just seems to wake up and give of its best, usually only a little louder than is comfortable for Mrs Bruss. :grinning:
Even with the 552/300 combination which is very good at low volumes, there is a volume at which everything just falls into place.
