Hana SH Mk 2 into NSC 222

Hi All,

Has anyone tried the new Hana SH Mk 2 into the moving magnet input on the NSC 222?

I only have experience of the Hana SL and the SL mk2 but not into Naim amps. Both are very good. I would expect the SH to sound very good compared to most/any MM carts.

I have that Hana with a Nait 50,sounds fine.

I use a Hana MH with a Rega P8, Cyrus Signature Phono and PSXR Power Supply. Nac 52 and 3 active Nap250-2. Sounds superb. Hana EH with P25 and Cyrus/Naim was also very good.

Hi David, thanks for that..are you using the Hana into the Moving Magnet input? My main concern is does the Hana high output moving coil have enough output to drive the Naim moving coil input properly?

Hi Phil,

The nait 50 is mm only,and works fine.

I dont know how the n50 phono compares to your 222,but I suspect it will be ok regarding gain.

It would be too high for an mc input.

I have the Hana SH into my 222 it’s been fine. But I am upgrading to the ML with a Rega Aos to achieve greater separation and sound stage benefits.

Bet that will be great..Aos is supposed to be really good :+1: I’m trying not to increase box count but struggling with MM having had MC previously..

Yes I’ve heard good things and my brother has the Aos with a brand new Michell Gyro, but with the Umami Blue cartridge. That is exceptional and I’m hoping for some of that with my much older Gyro SE and a different arm. The Aos is a half case so I will have room for it on my table too.

The N50 has a “non standard” (for naim) input capacitance of only 100pF.

The 222 has 470pF, much like Stageline N and SN3.

So not the same.

The N50 will have far wider cartridge compatibility, based on cartridge manufacturer recommendations.

The difference 470/100 input capacitance makes is noticeable, but can’t discuss how we know this on the forum.

That would explain why my Rega ND7 sounds so much better through the little Nait 50 than the Rogue Audio Pharoah II I’m demoing right now. The Rogue with its class D power that is 10x that of the little Nait doesn’t sound hugely more powerful. Think I’m gonna send the Rogue back and keep the Nait 50. It really is a great little amp with a killer phono stage.
