2015, camping around Europe with the family. Stopped at Montreux due to a change of plan and was embarrassingly surprised to find the Jazz Festival was on. Looked at the programme and found that Herbie was doing a gig the next night with Chick Corea. Tickets were dreadfully expensive for four of us, even standing, but I still hadn’t had a 40th birthday present so we wrote it off against that.
Not only was Quincy Jones compèring but it was also Jacob Collier’s international debut. And then we got to see Herbie and Chick do their thing for over an hour. Great.
