Have I connected them correctly? Nac 152 XS and Flatcap XS

Hi
I bought some Naim equipment that I would like to try out with my Plinius sa250 klass a poweramp.
Preamp Nac 152 XS and Flatcap XS.
I have connected as per the attached pictures; from the manual and from reality. Should be 1:1 with what’s shown in the manual. Using a 5 pin 240 Snaic cable in upgrade 1 connection and using a 5 pin 240 linkplug in upgrade 2 connection.
From the preamp to the poweramp, I use a 4 pin DIN to rca adapter cable.
Now to the problem: I cant get any sound, when I turn them on, the Mute button starts blinking on the preamp and never stops. I heard this is not good?
When I turn the volume up, I can hear the music at a constant very very low volume.
Any idea’s on what could be wrong?

Thanks/
Hank

The poweramp connection should be to the Flatcap, not the pre-amp.

If you connect it that way you are only powering the light and digital controls section of the preamp and not the analog gain stages, you need to connect “Upgrade 2” of the 152XS to “Power Out A” of the FlatCap XS, and “Upgrade 1” of the 152XS to “Power Out B” of the FlatCapXS. Then connect the SNAIC 4 from the “Signal Out A” of the FlatCap XS to the amplifier using the DIN to RCA adapter. If you only have one SNAIC 5 then do “Upgrade 2” to “Power Out A” only until you can get a second SNAIC 5. BTW, 152XS/FlatCap XS is a fantastic combination, I think you are going to like it.

You will need the link plug for option 1 on the pre-amp if you don’t have a 2nd 5pin snaic.

Thank you for the reply.
I only have one 5 pin snaic, so I plugged it to upgrade 2 and to power out A. Then plugged upgrade 1 with 5 pin link plug on preamp.
And 4 pin adapter from Signal A to poweramp.
See picture.
But unfortunately no sound, and preamp is without lights. Im using the RCA “CD in” on the preamp for my signal from the dac

Thanks, I see both upgrades are connected to Flatcap here.
I only have one 5 pin Snaic, so I have tried using upgrade 1 or 2 and plugged the unused, but no dice. Are you saying I need both connected for it to work? So I need another 5 pin cable?
Hank

I suspect the link on “Upgrade 1” is not the right one, it should look like the one on the right:

Disconnect the link from “Upgrade 1” and try again.

With one Snaic connect to Upgrade 1. Link in upgrade 2. Connect the power amp to the Flatcap.

Right, thanks. So have you had this combo? And used it with 2x Snaic 5 connected in both upgrade 1 and 2?
I have tried all combinations suggested in this thread, but I still get the blinking mute.
So perhaps I need to have 2x Snaic connected to get this to work? Or have you had only one Snaic connected to either upgrade together with a non Naim poweramp??

Thanks

With a third party amplifier you would need a SNAIC5 on Upgrade 2 plus the paddle link plug on Upgrade 1, or two SNAIC5’s, one for each upgrade. I’ve own this combo and two SNAIC5s is the way to go to get the most out of it, well worth it IME.

Thank you, then I will order another SNAIC5 and hope for the best

One follow up question. This paddle plug, I cant find a plug with reference to 152 XS in the list of compatible units on any site. Looking at the website called “hifigear” (not allowed to post full link to website), pic below, there are two versions of the paddle plug. I believe it must be the one referenced to be used with CD player? please check the two options for paddle link on that website, and see what you make of it, thanks!

IIRC you need the short 4 pin paddle link (often called the CD5 paddle as it was originally used on the CD5 CD player).

If it helps, the two plugs that were supplied with the NAC152XS:

Removal of the paddle plug allows upgrade 1.

Removal of the round plug allows upgrade 2.

(Nice preamp btw).
