I had a second system which was destroyed in a fire (NAC 272, XPS DR, 250 DR and HDX)
New system was another 272, the 300 DR from my main system and an HDX SSD.
A friend who is an IT manager tried to get it to work, but the HDX never got past “starting…” on the screen (for hours and tried many times). He thinks it’s because the HDX is old technology and the DDS 224 is new.
I don’t know enough about this. But I have a new DDS 224- I would like to stick with Naim.
If I took a newer device like a NAIM Unitiserve would this work?
I am out of my depth with this- any help much appreciated!
Hi, the Unitiserve uses the same tech as the HDX, just without the DAC. The newer version is the Core.
I think it’s unlikely that the new NAS you have is the problem, although you do need to set up a folder in it correctly for the HDX to use as a music store.
If you are using a Windows computer you need to enable SMB1 to use it with the HDX. SMB1 is considered obsolete so is disabled on most computers.
If you can’t even start up the HDX properly you are probably a few steps away from addressing any of these issues.
Something to be aware of during startup is that the HDX must be Ethernet connected to a working network before you turn on the power, otherwise it will not get an IP address. Maybe worth checking that your router’s DHCP server has found it and allocated an address.
