Help! CDX2.2 NOT Recognizing Discs!

Need help from Naim CD experts:my Naim CDX2.2 is all of sudden NOT recognizing discs. Was working fine heard a sound like when the puck was not placed correctly (but it was) now get an error/no display whenever a disc is inserted .Powered it down made sure it was set to correct output .Noticed a very small opaque “dot” that I believe was in the center of the spindle came off .Not sure if dot was from spindle or clamp.ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

My first step would be to replace the puck, though I suspect as an experienced user that you have already done this

Can you or anyone else tell me what puck exactly I need to order? Trying to Google it now but NOT finding a quick answer

I would contact TomTom Audio and ask for a Vamp 1202 , in the mean time you can er squeeze the nipples on the puck

Ok,so I found out the CDX2.2 uses the clamp 5.Still can’t tell though if the tiny opaque plastic dot that came off is from the clamp or the Spindle

Oh that looks worrying…

I think it could be your problem … do you have an air blower , say for a camera ?

Is that the laser lens perhaps?

No the lens looks fine.I really believe it was part of the clamp (in the bottom center).I looked at the spindle-there is a tiny magnet in the center of the spindle (still there). When I look at the bottom of the clamp-center between the metal ring there is nothing that would make contact with that magnet-center on the spindle .I believe THAT is why it does not sense the disc on the tray. Also I noticed the cd does not appear to spin but the spindle top is spins freely as normal when I gently spin it with my fingers. The pics of the clamp 5 on the web don’t show a close up of the bottom however to confirm my theory. If anyone has the clamp 5 on hand maybe they can look at the bottom closely to see if it’s completely smooth or has a plastic piece in the center to make contact with the spindle’s center magnet.

Also if ANYONE here on the forum has the CDX2.2 maybe they can take a look closely at the top of the spindle (hub).Looking at mine I can see a small metal magnet in the center. If that should NOT be visable then that small plastic dot came off of the spindle NOT the clamp .

Then again maybe it IS the transport mechanism as a whole that failed.Again-NOT showing the time display on ANY discs .Comes up Err

This is what the spindle should look like:

Apart from what looks like a crack in mine (only just noticed when I uploaded the photo). That shouldn’t be there  , but isn’t causing any issue for me.

Yeah,I don’t the center magnet in the spindle hub exposed like mine

Is it still magnetic? If you hold the puck over the hub can you feel a pull?

ERR can be caused by the puck slipping. Rotating the rubber nipples may help. Or a careful cleaning of the hub. I used to use some bluetack.

Yes,the magnetic attachment is still there.Would like to know with that tiny plastic piece covering the ball bearing of the spindle broken off -would that cause my problem? Trying to find out do I need a new clamp 5 OR spindle top? You know when I had my Naim CD5X the magnetic puck would pull the top of the spindle hub off frequently.I just placed it back-and all was good .The hub for the CDX2.2 seems more “attached”.
