can’t seem to remember how to connect all pieces.
Prefix Snaic5 to socket 4
4/5 i/c socket 1 to Nac 202 aux (not powered)
snaic4 from …damn it!
From your profile I can see you have a Hicap powering the Prefix. In which case, you connect the Prefix DIN to the DIN5 socket on the Hicap. Then take signal out of the Hicap via one of the DIN4 sockets (usually best to use the closest one to the DIN5 to keep internal signal paths shortest) and into one of the NAC202 inputs via 4-5 interconnect.
For the NAC202, connect up the NAPSC, then connect the NAC202 to the other HICAP DR via SNAIC5 (band closest to the NAC) and then take signal from the HICAP to the NAP200 power amp via SNAIC4 (band closest to the Hicap).
If the HiCap powering the prefix is a Chrome Bumper HiCap (it isn’t clear in the profile information, the one powering the 202 is listed as DR, but not the one powering the prefix), then the socket closest to the DIN 5 is the one that also carries 24V, I think, and it’s the next one along again that should be used to route signal from prefix to the 202?
I’m only checking as I was incorrectly using my own recently acquired CB HiCap as I thought all the 4 pin DIN sockets were the same
Yes, on early pre '93 HICAPs one of the DIN4s carries a single rail 24V supply. Best to avoid using this if just taking signal out of the Hicap. However, if serviced at Naim this single rail supply would often be disconnected (unless specifically requested to keep it), as this offered a small but worthwhile performance lift.
Oh ok, thanks for that, Naim would default to disconnecting it unless asked otherwise? I might take a look inside mine to check in that case
Back in my day the question would normally be asked whether you wanted it removed or not. Personally, I chose to keep the single rail supply on my own CB HICAP so I could use it to run my early single rail pre-amps as well as the later dual rail ones.
HicapDR ,right.
Lately I’ve turned 46 and you know memory starts failing.
Thanks to both a lot.
Won’t work. .
Ok I see where the misunderstanding arises . Sold my hicap2 ,must update info. sorry.
Actually i’ve only one hicap DR left and want to maximize prefix, please.
Ah OK. If you only have one Hicap and want to maximise the Prefix, then connect the Prefix just as I posted, however, on the NAC202 you’ll need to re-connect the 5 pin DIN link plug and then directly connect the NAP200 via SNAIC4.
5 din plug r,ight!
thanks
Ignoring the conversation so far and focusing on the thread title. Replace the Hicap with a Supercap. That should maximise your Prefix
you’ve a point there.
Plan is getting sc2 the sooner as 82.
But well after new speakers.
250 icing on the cake.
No matter my fondness for 52/252.
Made my choice I won’t look back.
