A bit late the the hi res party, decided to listen to an album I know really well.
New Jersey - Bon Jovi.
At first when I listened to this a few months ago, I though, not sure what is the big deal about the 96/24 file, can’t hear much of muchness.
But last night, decided to listen to this again. System - Chord 2qute/202/200DR/Dynaudio X16 (no hicap). Although I have 3 different versions of the vinyl (the early pressings are quite wonderful), this 96/24 bit digital version does really sound engaging and fresh…
I do hear the differences now, I must say, I wish all albums on tidal would be hi-resolution.
Differences are the the music is more vibrant, more alive, just sounds so much more engaging, fresh, and the wonderful vocals just sound so much clearer. These are incremental differences, but after listening to the 96/24 album, can’t ever go back to the 44.1/16 version now.
On the Dua Lipa album, same effect comparing 44.1/16 to 44.1/24 bit, bass much better, everything sounds a bit more alive and vibrant. I think I can hear there is just more data, more information, just sounds more clearer than before.
Seems much easier to follow what is going on with the various instruments, and the vocal separation is much better… not a day and night difference, but once heard, it’s almost impossible to go back and listen to the 44.1/16 version.
Rather than upgrade my hi-fi playing the music, I think I would now rather search for hi-res albums?
