Hi all, This will be covered somewhere on here, but do I have to disconnect my SN2 from the mains when fitting a HiCap?
I’ve already connected the HiCap correctly but the SN2 is not working, and I have disconnected it from the mains as I thought this was the correct way to go.
Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.
You need both connections in place. See section 4.9 of the user manual.

I’ve already connected both cables to the amplifier but I’m not sure whether the amp has the mains supply to the amp has to be removed? I’ve removed the IEC plug from the rear of the amplifier but nothing works on the amp now. I’ve looked at the instructions and it does look like the mains power is in fact connected, but I’ve been told the mains power to the amp needs to be disconnected, so I’m a bit confused to be honest.
So, to be clear the HiCap is connected with the two 4/5 Pin cables and direction is correct on both cables.
The SN2 is disconnected from the mains.

You need the mains connected directly as well as the HC. Power up HC first, then switch on mains.
My understanding is that the HC just powers the preamp section, so you still need mains power for the rest.

Many thanks for your support. I had a rather long trip from Wiltshire this morning, five and a half hours and suffering from a bit of heat stress, but I just wanted to get the HiCap connected up and leave it on for a few hours along with the amplifier. I’ll have a listen later tonight if I can stay awake, or tomorrow.

A little review.
Source CDX-XPS
First up was, Talk Talk - The colour of Spring, Happiness is Easy on CD. This disc is quite bright sounding, but the first thing I noticed is the sound is a bit ‘dryer’ and more controlled. This album on CD has a fantastic dynamic sound which is even more evident now but not too forward, and the background vocals are more focused now. I feel more comfortable listening to this album at higher volume now which wasn’t the case before so I’m amazed at how this HiCap has improved the sound in almost every way.

Next up is, Steely Dan - Can’t Buy a Thrill. First track, Do it Again has an already lovely flow improved, and is not as bright but, just right and this track just sounds more tuneful now.
I would say the HiCap has made the music smoother, and in general more tuneful and less fatiguing along with a bit more slam when the music demands it.

Glad that your system is now up and running! IMHO, as an owner of Naim gear for nearly 40 years, given its flexibility, the Hicap offers the most bang for your audio buck of any equipment ever offered by the company. It can be used as an upgrade to most Naim preamp’s and integrated amplifiers, and its sonic improvements are easily heard.
