They had again their bigger speakers on display. However today they were not so perfectly tuned as the last time I heard them which was I belief at the Deutsche Hifi Tage.
If you by the way buy these ones you will require a sizeable room as the speakers with the specific cabinets will require some space.
Fink sounds a bit metallic, again that’s the effect I didn’t hear the last time, so I guess it has something to do with the setup.
Jenny Clark - quite interesting track to test your system especially at the beginning, track unknown to me, no booming bass - so great rendition of the track.
Shawn Phillips again some metallic effects in the mid and high sections. Bass is clearly the best aspect of the sound today…, they also do a bit of power play , so not sure how that influences the sound as well.
David Holmes electronic song, nice development and besides the already mentioned feedback made for this system.
So will take a break now and hope to complete the report this evening otherwise early next week.
Thanks for the notes from Jim Anderson. It interesting to now sit and listen alongside his thoughts and explanations. I’m unsure re the S sound he mentions, Trouble iz a man, is what I hear. All the other S sounds on this track sound clearly as an S. The whole album though does display an airiness and space between instruments that perfectly tests the 552/300dr ability to express that. The speed and timing particularly show through on ‘Mashup’.
So the room with Wilson Benesch and a GMT System Turntable, and Michael Fremer………
Now Michaelmis always special at the show, he always brings his LP’s with him and then wants them to play those ones, to give him a feeling. The disadvantage for the consumer is that he often has odd or not yet released LP’s with him. In this case it was not yet released…, so difficult for me to reference as it was also not mentioned.
The speakers are great I have heard them before, a nice precise and rounded sounded. Very capable to play whatever you throw at them.
A short stay here, just not my speakers.
John Lanchberry - music sounds thin, the foundation for this type of orchestral music is missing. Detail is there, and the soundstage is also pretty good……, but missing to much for me to like…
So typical, throw big electronics to small speakers and pretend you are listening to a big system. While the speakers are shown at there best, it’s obviously limited by the ability of the speakers.
Tord Gustavsen, Beabaddo sounded fine…, but was not attracted to stay there for long.
I will not get to the last element for me on the show, but I promise you it will be a treat. Both in system as well in music. It was so good that I stayed at that one for more than two hours. So please help me with responses to publish all on this as it’s a huge list of music as well….
Let me at least publish some pictures still today. Then I can concentrate on the music and the description of the music tomorrow and not be limited by the limit of 8 consecutive posts
I would wish to know more of your impressions……Sad that not enough music or time to evaluate how it performs. That turntable with the 60 k Ypsilon phono must be something.
As mentioned tomorrow or Tuesday the content, so please respond so I can continue. If you ever have the possibility to listen to their speakers do it, you will be certainly impressed. And if you ever have the possibility to see Martial Hernandez running the demo again go their, you most probably will stay longer. As he is a walking dictionary on the recordings, as he has some very special recordings, as he knows how to go from a to b and as he is a passionate music lover……
See you again with the completion of the thread and the description of two hours of music in this room.
Yes it was quite something and to my ears sounded wonderful, while I didn’t have enough time to go in deep. Visually was also a stunning deck by the way. As you mention the 60k phonostage. The VAC phonstage in the Von Sweikert room was also 80K while the turntable was more down to earth I belief.
Yes, this turntable looks really stunning.
Your picture I was referring shows Ypsilon electronics and Wilson Benesh turntable, and Michael Fremer too. I was asking about that system.
