Markus Phillipe - bass sounds nicely rounded but could be a bit more raw
Marcin - could have a bit more attack and fast fall off
Hok-man Yim - for this song even more than the others you need power en precision to create the right decay etc…., however it’s just not there…..at least not enough.
Not sure if the limitations of the system lie in the amplification or the DAC…. Given the praise in reviews for the DAC is assume the fault is on the amplification or speaker side in this case….
At the NW HiFi show I’ve always found the Audio Counsel room (full Audio Note system) beats the actual Audio Note room. Valves aren’t for me (too big for a start) but Audio Counsel (who jettisoned Naim entirely when they discovered valves & efficient speakers) make a good case for using them every year at the show. One YouTube blog I saw recently marked the Audio Counsel room best sound at the show. It was no surprise to me. This is a long way of saying I’m surprised how poor you found Audio Note. Still, plenty more to choose from.
Have heard the brand earlier and was not so dissapointed as this time. A big part of my opinion must come down to the roomacoustics which I addressed as echoing and bad. In the case of one of my normal favorites - Von Schweikert…, I was totally put off by the room and how they hadn’t been able to compensate. The rooms at the hifi deluxe have been of very mixed quality…..
Hope to hear them in better form the next time I hear them at a show.
This system can sound only sirupy, with poor bass, poor dynamics, and average involvement. Heard it many times, Jadis are French. Metronome today, can’t say.
Apologies all that you have to wait so long for the completion of the report. I have been everywhere and nowhere and was in the downtime not so motivated to concentrate on the completion. But promise I will see it finished in the first half of this month.
Bayz Audio - Part 1
These are the ones with the strange looking speakers. I almost would say it looks pretzel like…., but everyone will have it’s own real world comparison of the design. The design in principal only matter when you hate it and at the same time love the sound.
Thibault Cauvin - the music seems to fit good to the speakers, the higher tones come across in a refined manner.
Scott Hamilton - emotions and voicing of the instruments is well audible on this system. While some things are a bit too much in the background of the mix, it doesn’t bring a cross the hammer in music and would I belief not fit to represent metal or hip hop
Nils Lofgren - system has a carachter, details are well audible in the mix
Christina Pluhar - will it also perform at higher volume levels, the voices are at the edge of getting a bit out of control
Scott Hamilton - on my system this would sound with more body, now a bit thin
Also with Kasoto Music Racks and Lucas Audio Lab music server. The racks look beautiful, obviously not sure how effective they would be in the task of enhancing the musical experience.
Simon and Garfunkel - nice airy, wide soundstage,….bass could be a bit more full. However during the playing something goes wrong with the Vinyl playback as at once things where sounding edgy and unpleasant to the ear. They also afterwards switch to the music server playback.
Johnny Cash - Now sounding much better, coming from the music server. Not arguing that the original Vinyl playback shouldn’t be capable, but something was wrong with the carteridge or the needle before…
Markus Phillipe - bass now also sounding in normal dimension, not like before
Baba Blues - very clean, shouldn’t it sound a bit more rough, the sax is starting to pierce through and not sounding nice anymore, seems like they have passed the volume threshold for this system
The Wellermen - this is a nice demo piece. Could/should get a bit more bounce in the stomach for this one.
Chris Jones - doesn’t sound as grounded as it can be on the better systems.
Thanks for the recommendation of Jazz at the Club. I love Scott Hamilton’s music and in fact am listening to him now, on a recent album with Nat Steele. Give it a go.
Just a goodie which has nothing to do with the Vienna show. In a video of Jay’s Audiolab I heard these two tracks which I belief are great demo tracks….
Just had a funny incident and didn’t want to open a new chat only for that. As we have the full thunderstorm season I have to switch off the system quite regularly. Now yesterday I switched it on and the active inputs and output on my Nac552 stayed on with the light. So not creating a problem in function, but annoying and I also faintly belief that all lights out is the perfect setup for sound quality.
So started to research with google how to switch it off. I saw use remote switch to pre and push display button. I use my ND555 remote together with my iPad to play music and to make the required switches. Remote actually only for pause, volume and mute…., but pleasant to use in the sideline of the iPad……. However the meaning of all knobs are not clear. So researching and came to the conclusion that I did not have the required on the remote….. frustrated a bit…, but thought ok switch off and put on in the morning again, perhaps it corrects itself with a renewed power up. Of course it didn’t, so more googling. Oh you need the remote for the Nac552……, where do I find it…. In the obvious place I didn’t find it immediately…., so boxes on the addict - also no succes….back to original spot.
Battery of course dead as I never use that remote. Need to find the tool to open the screw on the battery compartment. Etc batteries in and yes through faint led’s I see which knobs to touch. And yes fixed…..
How you can be busy with nothing, but at the same time quite annoyed that it didn’t work as it needed to. Lucky side benefit is that I replaced the batteries and replaced them with new ones. Perhaps when moving once I might need that specific remote again as it’s the only one having access to all functions of the Nac552….
That’s the one thing I don’t like about the NAC552 remote, having to dig out the Allen key to open the darn thing. And the batteries don’t last long either as the remote lights up when you breathe!
All remotes should be usb enabled so that charging them is lift if a finger than old school battery operated . The remote for the 332 drain battery . Should not even be battery operated in the first place been a new design
