I hear hiss from my Focal Kanta 2 speakers when I unmute my Supernait 3. I hear it only from the tweeters while my ear is 30cm close. Is this normal? Any way to prevent it?
Perfectly normal
Yes, you can prevent it. Stop listening to your speakers from a 30cm distance…………………you’ll find you get a substantially wider soundstage, vastly superior seperation and last but not least you can hear it in stereo………………………………….you can thank me latter ![]()
lol! Fair enough
Quite normal.
If, like me, you have some tinnitus, you don’t even need to be in the same room as the hifi to hear a hiss!

Dear Richard
I need your assistance on the same topic.
I have Harbreth speakers connected to my SN3 and I am using AV by pass from my Arcam AVR.
My AV input on SN 3 is damaged due to some malfunctioning error in connection I guess.
So currently using Stream input on SN3 to run my speakers L & R for ARCAM AVR Set up.
There is terrible hiss sounds comes from speakers which sometimes over power the movie content
sound.
how do I deal with this ?
Is AV input on SN3 is different than other inputs such as CD / Stream / Tuner ?
Is it must for me to fix my AV input to get rid of this hiss sound from my speaker ?
Is there any other way I can continue to use Stream input and fix the hisss sound from speakers ?
It will be great if you can guide me on this please.
My set up is as below
Arcam AVR 21 ( home theatre set up )
Harberth XD 5 for L & R ( using the same speakers for Two channel and HT set up ) AV bypass
Naim ND5 XS 2 streamer for Music connected to SN3
While using streamer with SN 3 I don’t experience any hisss sound from speakers
it is noticeable only while using ARCAM av by pass from Streamer input on SN3
Look forward to hear from you.
best regards
Rajeev Kale
Rajeev, apart from the ability to configure for pass-through, the line level inputs should be the same. Does the loud hissing sound occur of you connect the Arcam AVR to the other line inputs?
Yes CD Input as well as Tuner
Then it sounds like the issue is upstream - i.e with the Arcam AVR pre-amp output, or something connected to the AVR perhaps?
Could be good to try a different interconnect just to rule that out.
Hello Richard
I didn’t get you different interconnect means
Using diff RCA cable or use different pre out on Arcam AVR
My AVR model is Arcam A21
Different RCA Cable, but also try different pre-out too, if one is available.
Just a thought, is it a hiss or a hum ?
It is hisss and it goes up as you move sound
Button upwards
But I noticed today the sound is coming
From all sources AV , CD , Streamer
So it is not Arcam a problem
I guess something to do with SN3
My local dealer in India / Mumbai is clueless
Thank you for confirming hiss - I just had an idea that if it was a hum, it might be a mains hum, but that’s clearly not the issue here.
And you say that it’s not the low level constant hiss you would normally get but very loud and increases when you increase the volume level?
Have you tried disconnecting every source? If the hiss remains, it rules out every source.
If the hiss stops, then reconnect each source, one-by-one until the hiss starts again.
Yes, good advice from Blythe. I would do that. Disconnect everything and start by connecting the ND5XS2 (ground switch set to chassis). Is the loud hiss that varies with volume still present?
Ok I will try to do that , what do you mean by ground switch set to Chassis
