House Plants - Yes or No?

I cannot abide indoor plants. Like caged animals to me.

This is probably unusual.

Nope I’m not keen on them. Except a Christmas tree…at Christmas. Haven’t had a house plant for decades.

Yes, agree. I love indoor plants. I firmly believe they give the space more…serenity.

Love houseplants - I have lots. First thing in the morning while kettle is boiling I tend to them and most them. Mindlessness therapy

Love indoor plants! Long cold and dark winters and plants brighten up the rooms!

SWMBO loves them. We have potted plants all over the place.

Me? I don’t actually hate them, but given a choice there would be far fewer of them.

Worst of all she also has a few dried plant pieces. Years ago, when I first got my CDS, she insisted on putting a potted dried arrangement on top of it. It was always shedding little bits which I would have to retrieve before they got into the mechanism. Took me a year to get her to stop doing it.

Then there’s her habit of dividing cactuses and repotting them. Every so often I have to persuade her (very hard) to donate the excess to others.

Had her right Knee Replacement yesterday. No visiting allowed (Covid restrictions). I think she’ll be coming home tomorrow.

Good for wellbeing. Good for indoor air quality. Good looking. Just good for you! May even be beneficial to sound quality depending on bulkiness and positioning.

But require a commitment to due care and attention. Do I have any? No, not in the music room, that is excluding a cactus that refuses to die! (There are some in other parts of the house just that the music room is ‘my’ responsibility and plants don’t like my watering habits (lack of).

I (we) like indoor plants, but I (not 'we) work hard to keep them to sensible numbers & never ever anything that outgrows its allotted space.
I have some that I rotate (give 'em a rest) when out of season & others some that get replaced or thrown out when they reach sell by dates.
Unfortunately (not I) have two orchids that are gifts at significant dates from significant people. They’re well past sell by dates and/or badly in need of an orchid specialist, but I’m not allowed to touch them.
Depending on season we always have weekly fresh flowers from either garden or flower shop.

In our experience orchids do wonderfully in a bathroom on a sunny windowsill. Southeast facing windo gives them lots of light (triple glazed so never cold), but I think the frequent bursts of humidity when people have showers is possible key. Three there now, the oldest been there about 6 or 7 years, doing well. Youngest maybe 4 years. Between the three there are flowers constantly throughout the year, much of the time at least two in flower.

I have a 17% success rate for them to live longer than a year.
Although I do prefer the look of most when young and little in their pots. Rather than getting old, leggy and grey around the edges.

Spiky little beggars…but so cool.

Many do great at taking formaldehydes out of the air. I really love large house plants. The only problem is you need a large space to put them which might be at a premium. That said, I’ve raised a few indoor trees that eventually had to go because I was not diligent in pruning and they hit the ceiling.

Honestly, the more the merrier. I’d live in a forest if I could. I find if you put a large potted tree next to a rack, it totally takes the eyes away from the gear, obstructs the ugly side view of cables, and makes the whole thing vanish into the room.

I would be interested to hear Summers ‘plant’ play list. Does it resemble the play list she would make for herself?

I understand, if you are spending large amounts of time indoors, indoor plants are good for mental health, along with bright walls and plentiful windows
