How do I Leave the Naim Forum?

What would I have to do?

Any reason why you’re wanting to leave?

@Richard.Dane How do I leave the Forum? Can I come back if I choose? I’m not sure I want to leave yet.

Not sure why you don’t just stop opening up the App? No harm in just not posting for a while.

I can’t see a way of not seeing the closed topics. I have a huge list.

Seeing all the closed topics drives me crazy. I have a huge list that I can’t get rid of. Otherwise I would like to post.

Not sure why this is an issue? Are they somehow stopping you from searching to topics you want to reply too?

The three lines at top right should bring you to a menu with the main topics.

I just looked under ā€œHome theatreā€ and there does appear to be an excessive amount of closed topics there.

What view do you use? I use on i-device app, and mostly use the view ā€œlatestā€, in which closed topics drop very low in the list within a few days of closing, so in essence I only see a handful of the most recent unless I search for something.

You’ve brought this up before.

As mentioned by I_B, click on ā€œLatestā€ to view all new topics and new replies, sorted by date. Start reading from the top of the list. As soon as you read past the latest new topics and new replies, stop reading.

You can also mute individual topics. Use the ā€œTrackingā€ button that appears below the most recent reply to do that.

I find the trick is to curate new threads of little interest as they appear. If you know a thread is not going to ever interest you, they can be marked as ā€œignoreā€ and they will just vanish.

You’ll always have a long list of threads but only recent and interesting ones to you should really be in the top 10-20 of each room.

Why not just stop visiting the forum, if you think there is a chance you want to return? You can turn off notifications of posts on threads you participate in. I did that a long time ago. I only know if anyone ever replies to me when I specifically visit the forum. I never get emails unless Richard is scolding me for something I did wrong. LOL. If I don’t visit I’m none the wiser.

My list of closed topics runs for two years. How do I ignore them?

Are they really an issue though? I mean, there might be thousands of topics when I open a room but only the top 10-20 mean anything. It’s not like I scroll down.

You have to go into your account preferences, and under ā€œemailsā€ turn everything off. After that you have to visit the forum to see if you have replies, likes, and responses to threads you follow.

I do that for all social media. It’s the only way to live a reasonably sane life, AFAIC. When I have interest I have to visit the forum. Otherwise, I’m left alone to live my real life.

Only cyberspace and AI are real.

[We need to release the ghouls of dead threads.]

I have messaged you.

If you leave properly your account name turns into anon1234567, or similar. And if/as/when you return you’ll need a new user name if I understand correctly. That might not bother you, but it will mean it’s harder for you to find your old posts. And harder for others to find what you’ve posted in the past. Of course that might be the effect you want, but it sounds like you are mainly concerned with how to reduce the noise the forum is having on your life?

Speaking personally, I’ve visited the forum a bit less recently. I had a fairly long streak (a year or so) where I visited every day, and there was some (low, but definitely present!) level of concern that I’d lose that streak. I also felt I had to keep up with threads. Luckily that ā€œthreadā€ has snapped now. I’m sure I missed the odd day when I haven’t visited, and I have maybe 1000 unread posts on the system pics thread, as an example. I used to be pretty up to date!

I feel fine. I do still enjoy reading the forum very much. I don’t feel guilty, or out of date. Literally the only feeling of regret was missing the call for the most recent forum visit, but enjoyed reading the thread retrospectively.

You can’t keep up with the internet, so I wouldn’t try. Use the tips posted by others to keep the noise down. Or just try not visiting for a few days, play music and read a book, or whatever. It doesn’t matter if you miss a post, or thread, or two, or ten. And many apologies if I’ve assumed too much in this reply. It’s been a bit cathartic to me to write down my ā€œadmissionā€ anyway

You can check out but you can never leave……

From previous posts this sounds like a sight-related specific thing, which others are perhaps not getting?

Related to screen clutter (?) which I can totally relate to. If you use a screen reader forums can be a mare. If you’ve enough vision to read it without needing a text to voice conversion it can still be a nightmare because a whole pile of things others would not even think about it can crowd in and make the thing you want to read hard to locate in the first place and hard to keep reading.

By all means correct me if I’m wrong here @Jaybar but rather than leaving the forum might I suggest the better option would be for @Richard.Dane to point you in the direction of someone within Naim with responsibility for and knowledge of accessibility issues and have them work through the issues and possible solutions?

Can’t you just click the ā€˜Latest’ link at the top. All the closed threads appear at the bottom then so you can ignore them.
