How good are Nac A5 cables?

As far as Clearwater is concerned, knowing the very low capacitance (consequence of the spaced design) one can safely assume that inductance, inversely proportional to C, must be very similar to NAC A5’s.
I know little about the other cables..

AI, using available data, has calculated about 1µH/mt., which is almost exactly like NAC A5’s.
Cheers.

NACA5 cables are great. In my opinion with the Naim classic stuff you can’t beat them. Solid copper works best. Anything with silver makes the top end too bright in my opinion and experience.
I’ve been there and gone back to NACA5.

I’m wondering if there is much support for Mogami cables here.
Perhaps not so biased towards NacA5 for heritage type amps but for more modern adaptations.
I only ask because as interconnects I prefer RCA I know it’s all heresy here but just for interest and conversation.
I changed from Linn Silvers “ no silver involved “
To Mogami 2549 and am more than pleased with them and am curious how many might use Mogami Speaker cables as an alternative.
I’ve discovered but not tried Mogami 3103 and wondered what experiences might be out there.
Just flying a kite thanks.

Has anyone here used both NAC A5 and Kudos KS-1? If so, what is your perspective?

I’ve not tried their speaker cables. I have a din to RCA interconnect that did a good job though.

I tried getting an inductance estimate for the D-352 Magnum, which is a lot closer to NACA5 in cross-sectional area, by entering these parameters:

  • Resistance: 0.34 Ohm/100 meters

  • Capacitance: 32.5 pF/meter

  • Cross-sectional Area: 5.23 mm²

  • Geometry: Twisted

Here’s what I got from AI:

A reasonable estimate is about 0.5–0.8 μH/m for the complete two-conductor loop, with approximately 0.6μH/m as a useful working value. The exact value cannot be determined from cross-sectional area, resistance, and capacitance alone because it depends strongly on:

  • Conductor-to-conductor spacing

  • Insulation dielectric constant

  • Twist pitch

  • How tightly the two conductors are twisted

  • Whether the quoted capacitance is measured per conductor pair

I think the results would become reasonably accurate if the spacing between conductors was known. I also got an estimated 0.6μH/m for the Clearwater, both calculations from GPT-5.6 Luna.

I have. With both 72/140 and now Nait50. No longer use the Naca5.

Thanks for saving me some money. I previously paired the NAC A5 with my NAP 500, but I sold it and switched to the KS-1; I nearly forgot its sound. After reading glowing remarks here—some even claiming it outperforms the SuperLumina—I wonder whether I erred by replacing it with the KS-1.

Ks-1 is good. Especially for the money and flexibility. How it sounds, well only you can decide. Ive never worked out the Naca5 hype. Some will take it to their grave, yes its ok. But I cant see or hear anything special. Unless its made of gold and I’ve missed that bit.

Lol…this thread has me (semi-seriously) thinking. Now that I’ve downsized from 252/SCDR/300DR to Nait 50, should I try A5 again! Could recoup a lot of funds by selling my Super Lumina…which I’d only spend on cigarettes and cocktails, but still…

Send it my way.

Mogami are superb cables, mostly recognized in studios. I believe Rega Couple are actually rebranded Mogami.

With A5 sound is full, warm and natural but i miss the extra treble sparkle from my Chord Clearway X cables even with a speaker toe in on the ears.

I miss the extra treble sparkle of my youth…

I’ve been using Duelund Dual DCA16GA for six years now with several different amplifiers.

The last 18 months with a Naim Nait 50 I’ve no plans to change.

That’s what I’m using with my Nova and Kanta 1s. Fantastic cable.

Full, warm and natural is Naim’s signature performance. With Naca5, and assuming your sources and Naim amps are all setup correctly, it just shows what feed to the amp and that’s all – sparkle or none, ideally it depends on the record mastering.

The disadvantage of using speaker cable for sound tuning, typical example is when playing brighter mastered records like Japanese City Pop from 70s, or some CDs from early 2000s it easily becomes too much. To me it doesn’t make sense my HiFi avoid myself from playing any music I’m interested to listen to.

After all it’s fair enough if one says they hear only dull records and no vintage CDs. In the end it very much depends on one’s music taste and collections. It’s good to have Naca5 first, having the balanced base to compare with and see what are the suitable cables to move onto.

All the basic Naim cables are very good and work well with Naim components IMO. Those who have always used them will agree. Some like me will have gone down another road ( Chord in my case) regretted it and returned to the Naim offerings . Some will prefer the hifi type sound advantages that some other manufacturers cables provide and are happy with the change. So surely the answer to the OPs question is NACA5 is as good as the listener feels it is. The same applies to similar IC and power cable comparisons.
