How good are the standard Naim cables

I’d been listening to the WH Phantom in my system for a couple years and thought I was settled with it, but I put the NACA5 back in and it simply sounded right. A few months on and I don’t have any desire to change back.

Changing cables most often include you need to move around the speakers to create balance.

I suspect this is a very common mistake (trying to branch away that is). Sometimes one never knew what they had, until it’s gone for a long period and then returned back into their system.

Naim original cables are bit tricky I’ve learned and as most often it comes down to synergy and what you prefer. They do filter away information compared to many other cables but they do keep music together due to this I suspect. I guess they average out worse recordings making them more allround. It’s easy to think that cables you send along when purchasing a new box should work great with all kinds of music and recording to get a good starting point. In my system I found Lavender still being very listenable compared to very expensive cables. Naca5 also but the original DIN-XLR choked everything. I have not ran everything naim cables in my system but that must be muffling the sound when all cables cut in details. One thing is for sure and that is you can dramatically change the sound signature of a system with cables.

I think it perfectly possible to convince oneself about this if we try hard enough

Absolutely correct. Had a true Odyssey with Source DIN interconnects: Lavender > Chord Signature > TQ Black DIN > TP Koltura D18 > then back to Lavender. Currently being quite happy with a preloved HiLine. Lets wait and hear…

Good choice. With a Naim digital source component a Hi-Line is very hard to beat.

That was also the time when “The Boss” (Julian, not Bruce) died. I suspect that’s when the marketing department took over (?)

Maybe we should start a Naim cable conspiracy theory thread

You mean that there isn’t one already?

I have been downgrading my system recently. I sold the XPS-DR that was on my NDX2, and the Hicap-DR that was on my SN2. My ears tell me I did not lose much in sound quality. Diminishing returns indeed.
I also replaced the very high priced speaker cable I had and went back to good old Naca5. I must say, the Naca5 is just as good, and even has a bit more bass and oomph for a fraction of the cost.
Standard Naim cables and boxes are very good indeed.

Next will be probably a Nova on a little wood bed table….

Now put the HiCap DR & XPS DR back in…

They are already in new homes!

I just replaced a high priced din interconnect with the Naim Lavender. I can hear no discernible difference. The standard Naim interconnect is more than good enought. YMMV.

High priced DIN = ?

Until you exchange it for a Hi-Line, then add a HiCap DR & XPS DR, oh and Power-Lines

For the record, Naim never said cables didn’t make a difference. What they said was, words to the effect, that they had tried various other cables, but never found any that better the performance of their own.

I prefer not to say for now. I have to sell this cable!
