I am wondering if I can somehow connect my iPhone or iPad to my Uniti Atom and listen to Apple Music? There does not appear to be a way on the app to use airplay, so can I run a USB-C out to the USB-A jack on front? (Initial experiment withe the latter unsuccessful- but did not try very hard)
Start playing something with Music on your iPad, goto the control centre , select the music player and you should see an option to select the Atom, you must make sure Airplay is enabled on the Atom.
Here is the issue: I don’t see any Prompts/icons/etc that enable airplay on the app. Where do I find it? Under setup on the app there are 5 different streaming services listed, but no airplay.
It’s in the control centre on the phone. Top right, the circles with the triangle at the bottom. That will bring up a list of all airplay boxes.
Yes, I have AirPlay enabled on my iPhone and iPad- I use it all the time to send stuff to the tv. But I thought Robin’s posting above said I have to enable it on the Naim? Which I don’t see how to….

No, you can’t do this. A wired connection from an iOS device was how you could use it with Naim’s 1st generation streamers, but on the 2nd generation models like your Atom this was replaced by Airplay.
In addition to the advice above, of your iPhone doesn’t find your Atom, check that it’s connected to your home WiFi, not just to a cellphone network.
What you can do (with additional hardware):
Run a USB-C-to-S/PDIF/optical dongle and use an optical cable from there into the Atom. Should work with any iPhone/iPad or Mac around. (Though Mac behaves a bit differently with system vs. application settings/control. Just because it’s more built for a multi-app/tasking environment.)
Ok. Got it. Now I can play through my iPhone and airplay. But one question:
This allows me to control the music playing, queue, playlist, etc through my iPhone/ipad, and the Naim app is passive, only showing what song is currently playing. Is there any way to allow the Naim app to control the music, search, and add to the queue, etc?

No, you need to use the Apple Music app. The Naim app just has volume control and play/pause/next buttons.
Also the physical remote can be used to start/pause or skip tracks. But AirPlay only allows this kind of feedback from the player back to the app. Everything else must be done on the source device.
One possible trick: have Music (app and service) run on a Mac, and use the „Remote“ app to remote control Music (the App) on the Mac. But that’s an Apple internal/only control.
